Bullet Weight for 30 Caliber Carbine

Friend has a M1 Carbine and was wondering what bullet weights and what mold should he look for?
I'll be needing that for squirrels and such.....

Lyman 311359 comes to mind first, it's a 115 Gr GC should work just fine.

I have had good luck with the 311310 130 grain and no gas check. It makes a very cheap boolit. It also cycles fine and is accurate.

My favorite is the 311008 115 grains - 118 with soft alloy.

Three different answers! Looks like a good excuse to buy three molds

I use this boolit also, no gas check certainly is a good reason to use it! I also use the LEE 100gr. rn boolit intended for the .32 S&W long. It's also plane base and uses even less lead, okay for plinking at short range.

I'm in the very early stages of loading for the M1 Carbine cartridge, for both a GI Carbine and an as-new Ruger .30 Blackhawk revolver.

My first trials involve the 311359, which in my clip-on wheelweight alloy weighs 130 grains with lube and gas-check.

The Ruger refuses to chamber rounds with .311" bullets, although they do function in the Carbine. Since I have a .309" sizing die, that's what I'll try with the next batch of cast loads. I expect that will cure the problem with the revolver, and it should not affect the rifle too badly/.

I use the RCBS 30-115 SP with good results in the M1 Carbine.

I'm having good luck with this one:

    http://leeprecision.com/mold-dc-309-120-r.html

I have to size them .309 for them to function in my Carbine.

So far it has been 26 bucks extraordinarily well spent for all the bullets it has cast.

for small game shooting I use

The Ideal 311316 GC designed as a .32-20 bullet, although it was designed for high velocity rifle loads, it could be fired from both rifles and revolvers and the flat point makes it a hard hitter on game animals.

Your two limits are magazine length in the carbine and weight - 130 is about max and still get it to feed from a magazine. I like 2400 but Accurate #9 looks interesting and of course H110 is THE powder as it was designed for the cartridge.

I use the Lee 120gr RN GC, 113gr RFN GC, and the Saeco 120gr RN GC. the Lee 120gr shoots the best out of one of my rifles, the Saeco 120gr RN GC is best out of the other rifle. The 113gr is a good boolit but does not feed well out of one of my rifles.
W296 and WC680 are both good powders, along with WC820.

The gentleman and dear friend packs his M1 on his farm and uses it to keep the coydogs down. I have ordered two LEE molds and will see what happens.

    Thanks everyone.

I really like the 311-465 120 grn GC--I have three now, a single cavity and a double cavity Lyman, and a 4 cavity NOE that is the Bee's Knees. It allows me to crank 'em out, which helps with an ammo-eater like the M-1 Carbine.
