i really hate to say this.
    but, they are all good.
which one will fit your rifle is the question.
my 308 really likes the rcbs 165 silhouette boolit good thing too, it's the only one [of five 30 cal molds] that will chamber without the drive bands going inside the case.
it would not really be a good choice as a hunting boolit though, unless the nose was softpointed.
it's all an educated guess,,,, till the trigger is pulled.

the more i find out about shootin boolits, the more it contradicts everything i ever learned about shooting jaxketed.

Try one of the less expensive Savage rifles with an accu-trigger. I have had excellent results with Savage in the past. And the Noe 311 165 RF mold is excellent!

the lee 170 wouldn't be bad depending on your feelings about lee molds. I have this mold and it is easy to cast with if taken care of, and the price is right to try it out.

I've loaded the Lee 170 FP I have for the .30-30 in the .308 and they work very well in it. I like flat point boolits in cast for hunting as they have more frontal area for impact. Gas checked and sized to .310 work great. I think any of the flat point or round nose should work for you.

Both the 150 and 170 Lee flat points, and lyman 31141 HP shoot very well in all of my 30's.

Uh, OK. It happens to be a Savage 99I, but I don't recall putting that in the OP! It just seems to say "feed me cast bullets" when I pick it up.

Yes, the Lee is looking good. It appears to be the most popular .30 mold on Midway. The price is certainly right.

Another vote for the Lee 170 FPGC. I use it in the .30-30, .308, and even in the little .30 Herrett. Very good bullet.

I too use the LEE 170gr flat point but without a check and tumble lubed in 50/50.

OK, what is "leementing" and where do I read about it? Somehow I don't think Google is going to do the trick.

You would be suprised what a google search will turn up on leementing. It is basically polishing the mould with a cast boolit and some kind of abrasive like Ajax or Comet. From what I have read it makes the boolits drop better. I haven't done it yet, but lots of threads here about it.

Been casting since 1986 n never heard of that, I never had a mold stick that much. That's included Lyman, lee, and lbt molds.
    it should be called "leelapping".

Lapping is not always necessary with Lee molds. I have a lot of their recent efforts, and some work fine out of the box, some don't.

My first shot at Leementing any (and every) new Lee (or Lyman for that matter) mold is just scrubbing the cavities, checking for and removing any burrs (particuarly on the side of each cavity where the cutting tool exits), lapping the sprue plate flat, and assembling with some NRA 50/50 lube on the sprue pivot and where the alignment pins engage the slots. Often that is all that is needed.

If a boolit really sticks in one particular cavity, then I inspect it more carefully, lapping is a last resort.

I can usually tell how much trouble a mold is going to be by the finish quality of the cavity cut. If there is a lot of galling, chips, and a big ridge on the breakout side, I know I'm in for a rough ride.

Yes, that's my experience too. Only RCBS and custom molds are ready to run out of the box (after a good cleaning of course).
