    12ga mod 97 issue....

Hey all, I have a winchester mod 97 mfg date 1907 that don't want to eject spent shells. It will completely eject loaded shells with ease. I do not see on the gun where its 2 3/4 or something else. These are handloads of 80gr 2-F goex under felt wad and 1 1/8oz #8. I also use them in wifes replica with no issues. Any help on how to get these to eject would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob

Sounds like the cases are a little too long and may be hanging up on the ejection port.

Could also be the extractor, it needs to be "sharp".

I go with handyman. look at the case heads if they are like the rem black hulls there is almost no rim and a 1907 has been used a lot and chamber is a little large so when fired there is little to grab

Broken ejector spring is quite common on the 97. Look at the left side of the frame for a small screw even with the bolt. The spring is very small bent flat spring and goes through a hole in the frame. If the end is broken off it will not eject.

Took it out this morning and its snapped off. 2 questions.
1- will the new one need to be trimmed down before installation?
2- it says solid frame replacement. Mine is a take down model, is that considered solid frame?
    Thanks again, Bob

Bob the ejector spring is the same on all models and you should not have to do anyting to it, just install it and you are good to go.

The 97's in 1907 have 2-5/8" chambers. They need to be reamed to 2-3/4". Extractor issues are not that uncommon with the 97 either. I know this because I have an '07 right now that is having that done to it...

I put the ejector spring in. Have not been to the range, but put empty hull in and ejected it the way its supposed too. Will have to check whether or not hull length is gonna be an issue.
