    Finally got it home!

After four business days and five calender days of waiting on Va. state police to get off their collective buttocks and get to my 4473, I finally got the call this morning.

    Right outa' th' box.

    Leather sling added.

I like it Jim! Appears to be in good condition too. Let us know how she shoots. I'm curious whether you'll leave the bipod mount like it is.

Having never owned a contender I cannot say this is true for them, but in my experience, mounting a bipod on the barrel is counterproductive when it comes to accuracy.

I'd kinda' like to look into a bipod system of some description that mounts a little farther aft. I'd love to find a bipod that's easily and quickly detachable and I'd like to put the swivel stud in the fore grip, too. And people in.....nevermind.

There are bipods that mount to the forearm.

Definitely put one on the forearm. In Texas we do not have a wait if we have a concealed handgun license. Pay and out the door.

If you want to see alot of options go to Speciality Pistols website. Just lock your wallet in the safe first.

I have a Contender that I made a wider and longer foreend for and use a Harris bipod on it. I have actually gone back to a wood grip because it is longer. I then use a small square leather bag under the grip and squeeze the bag for elevation changes off the bench. Two wooden wedges will also work. This really improved the accuracy. enough so I had the confidence to take a 255 yards shot at an antelope in 2010, which was successful.
On SP look for XPhunter, this is Ernie, the guy that took me on the antelope hunt. He is a preacher in Gillette and a great long range pistol shot. he starts his practice at 500 or 600 yards.

I've done the same with my Encore pistol and have gotten great accuracy out to 500 yards. Have to find the time to stretch it out farther.

Used to was, no more that a year ago, it took the State Police almost no time to clear a person. Since my name is Smith it typically took me an hour. This past week it took a full four days! The Armory tells me that this is normal now.

Same thing here, Wayne. My dealer is in the 'traveling circus' crowd. He works the gun shows. He said VSP has now gone to working on applications from the gun shows ONLY on Fridays through Sundays, then trys to play catch-up the rest of the week with regular gun shop apps.

Just curious. What do the State Police have to do with buying a gun?

They verify identity. With all the problems Mayor Bloomberg caused Virginia gun dealers we have more scrutiny now than before. Remember these are handguns. I can walk out with a rifle or shotgun.

Now that is a manly handgun, no wimpy 9mm, .357 Mag., or .45 ACP something that will reach out and touch something.
