what is it? ol' casting parts, or swaging, or...?

Guys, Buddy of mine, when finding out that I cast tells me he has his grandfather's mold. So, with visions of some smart valuable old mold I tell him he can send it here. This is what I got. What is it? Of course it isnt worth the postage but I guess he wanted a good buriel place. If one of you know it, I can give it a good eulogy.

    much obliged,

    Max

I cant tell from the photo but it looks like some sort of roll crimper for old shotshell loading.

    Max,

It's a paper shotshell roll crimper. A very common tool from the days of paper and solid brass shotshells. You're right, they are an interesting tool, but aren't particularly valuable today.

I'd mount that puppy on a shelf with a staged shell.

    Elk Hunter nailed it.

You use the turn screw on the right side of the pic to mount to the bench. Slide the brass part of the hull in the holder on the right and the top of the hull goes into the orafice. You turn the crank with one hand and firmly pull the other lever with the other hand which is pulling the hull into the roll crimp die to put the desired roll crimp on.

HI Dude, What makes me laugh is that my buddy sent me this; it is so frozen that if the thumb screw worked I would mount it. If the crank worked I would put it somewhere for demos. If the lever worked I would .... but nothing does. So I will bury it. He wasted postage. But you guys all helped me give it a good eulogy, I guess that is what my bud wanted as it was his grandfathers. RIP.

    much obliged,

    Max

I still use one just like that to roll crimp plastic shells on top of slugs.
Started by cutting the burnt fold crimps off of used up trap loads to make slug rounds.
Everybody grab a shovel, we got a swamp to drain.
