    I just measured the dummy round I loaded for mine and I ended up settling on 3.205. This is the point for me that I stopped getting marks on the nose of the round.

    Thanks Lizzard. Mine using a dummy round was 3.200 when I stopped getting marks so looks like I am in the ballpark.

    The 311299 and 29 grains of H4895 give me 1" to 1.5" groups at 100 yards in my M1A NM. I am pleased. Many thanks to Larry and Bruce for their posts that helped me greatly to that performance.

    Now, if you're talking .308, you're right, those are pretty much max loads. Usgi mil spec m852 match ammo is 42 gr imr-4895 and a 168 gr sierra.

    Those are jacketed loads, of course, but good reference as to where to stop.

    I shot my M1 Garand with NOE’s #311299 this Saturday. 8 each over 32g of Jeff Bartlett's Surplus 4895, also 33g, 34g 35g and 7 over 35.5g.

    Charges were not weighed, they were thrown. Shot at 50 yards (mostly because I did not enough targets suitable for 100 yards). Wolf Large Rifle Primers. FA 59 Match brass.

    32g = 3″ x 1″ (3 in 1″ x 1″)
    32g = 7/8″ x 7/8″

    33g = 3″ x 1 7/8″
    33g = 1 3/4″ x 2 1/2″

    34g = 1 1/4″ x 1 1/8″
    34g = 2″ x 2″

    35g = 2 3/8″ x 1 1/2″
    35g = 1 1/2″ x 1 1/4″

    35.5g = 2″ x 2″ (4 shots)
    35.5g = 2 1/2″ x .5″ (3 shots

    All loads functioned the gun nicely. No one load seemed to stand out as “The Best” but given the nature of the shooting (only two groups each) that is not surprising. I will give it another go. This time I’ll try 32 and 33g with a 1/2g of Dacron filler on top of the powder. 16 of each. Four 4 round groups should be enough to give me an idea as to which is shooting better. Then if I have to I can try 34g and 35g the same way.

    Good thing the cast bullets are cheap.

    Installing the gas checks on this bullet is a royal pain. I do think I will be buying NOE's Gas Checking tool
