So. A 22" long heavy sporter barrel with a 1:12 twist then.

depends on what you are looking for
my model 70 started out as a compact version
I like the handiness of it and the ease of carry
sooo..I put a 21" match grade on mine

Very first trip to the range with a new .358 and I'm about ready to give up....

Out of four test loads with visually sorted, gas checked, White Label C-Red, .358", RCBS 35-200 at 18Bhn, two five shot groups averaged right at one inch at 50, one sub 3/4" and one squeeked under 1/2". !!!!

Best load is 24gr IMR4227, sub MOA at 1900fps
    2nd best, 24gr SR4759, 1.5MOA at 1850fps
    3rd best, 40gr IMR3031, just under 2moa at 2150fps
    4th best, 15gr Universal, right at 2moa at 1650fps

Darn things just won't shoot. I don't know why people bother with them!
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

Ben, I don't think so, last I read on his web site, his max size was .338

I'm thinking I'll rechamber one of my 357Mag handis, but I have a couple bolt actions that are looking for 35cal barrels.

if you keep an eye on CGN, you'll see I'm not alone... often there are WTB 35Cal barrels, and seldom any WTS.
