Need info on ball powder used in hairy 8ga loads.

I need info on what the powder is that Winchester
used, and may still use in their 8ga kiln gun loads.
And info on the primers too. The cases I have
here are the older paper 8g kiln cases with the doubled
up basecup, with the 3 ounce zinc slugs. Newer kiln loads are
in plastic cases, with the same belt step as on the paper cases,
built on the basescups. Both paper and plastic have the
belt on thd doubled up basecup. Zinc slug is roll crimped
in. ......The powder charge is 96gr. Powder is a flattened DB
spherical powder, with the spheres a little bigger than W748-760
powders. The flattened spheres are not as uniform in size like
the W748-760 and other cannister ball powders I have here.
The powder looks nearly identical to the WC860-872 I have
here, but it doesn't seem like those two would be in shotgun
application, being as they are real slow and hard to ignite in
cases of that diameter with regular shotgun primers.. This powder
is as heavy as the heavy ball powders, not light like WSF,WAP,
473A,WSL,WST, 231, etc than WIN makes. .......I compared the
powder today to Longshot and it is similiar but not
as uniform in size and shape.
.Could this powder be the obsolete W615 or W630, etc.

About the primers in these kiln gun 8 gauge cases,
when I test just the primers in 8ga cases, in gun I just set up, for a
comparison to REM.WIN,CCI,FED 209 primers bought for reloading,
the primers in the kiln cases look to be nearly twice as strong,
by the amount of flame and brissiance out the end of the barrel.
Hope someone can help , with powder and primer info.

Today took some of the industrial primers out of 8ga and used them
in 12GA FH loads, RL15 powder. These are full loads in plastic with
440gr to 600gr slugs. And with regular primers to ignite RL-15, we
have always had to use blue dot starter powder. But the industrial
primers work ok. like gangbusters with no hesitation.
So if someone can find a barrel of these hairy primers I know
many guys who'd like to get them.Ed

BPI has 8 gauge hulls for sale... maybe they have some experience loading these things... might want to call someone up there and inquire..

Well I found supply Federal 239 primers that are close to the
kiln case primers in strength, And I have a big supply of
the REM cases from BPI. They are the ones I used to reload
from the start. And thanks for powder info.

I use the 239 primers and 4759 powder. Also RE17 powder,
and have built an 8ga falling block that can take
more max pressure than the REM kiln case can do.
But yet the REM case can do over 20,000 psi. For
    great power.ED
