    Smith 696

I was kicking around at the gun store today and looking at Charter Arms. I always respect the 44 special and like the idea of the smaller frame with a good sized bullet. Next to the CAs he shows me a Smith and Wesson 696. 3" DA stainless, maybe they all are. With good leather holster and out the door for $450. I told him I'd think about it. Then I see there are only a handful on Gunbroker and they're all $900 or more. So would I be sad if I let this one go? I need a little encouragement.

If you don't buy it, pm me the ph# of the
gun store and I'll buy it that's a very good price.

I'd be all over that 696 for $450.

put me in line too. Id RUN not walk back to that store and buy it and then take the dealer to lunch for being so generous. I kind of stole the I bought to. I paid 450 for it back in 2000. Even then they were going for about 700. Ive seen then anymore go for 900-1200 bucks. Not only that but in my opinion its one of the slickest guns smith ever made.

No way a $450 696 would still be on the shelf when I left the fun shop...

Wow! I have not seen one under $900, ever. I, too, would jump on one
    on good shape for $450.

Thank you, my friends, for your support during my moment of weakness. The 696 is in the safe for a cool $450. I really needed another project!

Several years agoI sold a 696 AND a 686 CS-1, also a 3 inch barrel, to a gentleman in the Carolinas for $900...threw in a $100+ MILT SPARKS HSR holster and some other accessories. We're both happy.

I have a Rossi Model 720 which is nearly a clone of the 696. Very smooth action and very accurate. I hope to someday get a 696 for comparison.

I turned down an offer of $1200 in cash and a few trade items for my 3" CS-1
