    makeing 50 cal bullets

i just aquired a S&W 50 cal antique. i want to stick to lead bullets in this old girl.
i could,nt find a light 50 cal bullet mould sooo on to plan B.
i cast a bunch of 44 cal bullets , lee tumble lube 275 gr ,pure lead.
i then made a swage die, (my first one) and this is what i get.
i sized a few dry and then alox them all. that was a mistake. the alox
builds up on the bottom and top ram and don,t make a smooth a finish.
the brass is shortened 500 S&W MAG.
i,m useing my small atlas press for swageing.

Pretty cool! That's what DIY is all about, making something you can't or is difficult to buy.

hay i did some 30cal to 9mm that came out good i will post pic it will work alot beter if you do not use a tumble lube booilt and you lube them frist with a bit harder lube then swage up to 50 ues a 45 or a 44 you might even use a 40 and you might use a flat punch i tride a round bace punch and it did not help things i swage all my 30cal but iwill post a pic of them in 9mm

update on 50 cal swaged bullets. i cast a bunch of 44 cal pure lead mould #429421.
i lube sized them with NRA alox beeswax lube. i then swaged them and the lube
groove stays put. now for spring to come for some range time.
ps; these weigh 255 gr with pure lead.

The alox on the already lubed boolits is belts and suspenders. I've swaged many wax lubed boolits into other shapes with my Swage-O-Matic press and dies, and never felt the need to also add alox on top. No leading. At the very least, I would (if I were you) dilute the alox with mineral spirits, so that it wasn't as noticeable or glumpy.

Hope that the ancient 50 cal revolver serves you well, and that your swaging exercises are enjoyable for you. It's amazing what we can make, eh?
