I recognize some of the data Lyman's third edition? i have not tried sr7625 in my 12 ga. loadings, but had planned to years ago. BTW for folks new to reloading the sr in front of 7625 and 4756 stands for "small rifle". They are very versatile.

Hello UniqueDot, it was this SR7625 powder that gave 6 inch group with a 440 gr sabot slug at 200 yards with a charge of 29 grains and the bullet was BRI Sabot!
This powder is very good, burns cleaner and achieves the velocity and above all it does not take up too much hull space, just look at this chart of powder/ hull space!

Think about buying this great powder, next time you are looking for powder!

Ajay, have you used 7625 with reduced shot charges? I read an article in one of my books about ten or so years ago about using it with shot charges as low as 1/2 oz. in the 12 ga. I still can't imagine that it would perform as claimed, but if it would it's far more versatile than i imagined. Bullseye is decent in some reduced loads, but it wont even perform at 1/2 oz in a 12 ga.

SR7625 is starting to get towards the slower end of things, i think in the range of Herco.. if you want to load the lighter payloads, you may want to go with something faster... Red Dot, Green Dot, Bullseye, 700x, 800x, PB, Solo 1000, and the like.. I tried using Blue Dot with 6 pellets of 00 buck thinking, really awesome fast shot load.. there wasn't enough resistence and it resulted in a "poof" load.. not enough pressure to efficiently burn the powder.. 6 pellets of 00 buck = 3/4 oz..

Red dot, bullseye and 700x i have tried, but skipped over green dot. 800x is definitely not worth trying IMO. It's still goes over my head with the sr7625, but according to the author of that article he claimed the powder (sr7625) was the key to the loads which were passed to him from a mentor as i recall. I think i may end up trying it, but still can't imagine it could actually efficiently work.

Hello UniqueDot, if you check the powder chart above, you will notice Herco consumes up much more hull space, where as SR7625 gives more room for better cushioning and felt wad etc!

Ajay, i think i may have confused you. What i was wanting to know was how the powder could be used with charges weighing only 1/2 oz. Like sargenv said... i would think it would be too slow to accomplish the task yet the author claimed the sr7625 was the key to making it work. It just goes over my head how the powder could accomplish this safely. I would think it would end up sticking a wad in the bore. I searched and found the article although i didn't take the time to reread it, i did skip to the loads. Here is the 12 ga. 1/2 oz load.

There are no velocity figures unless they are mentioned in the script. I just can't imagine that the burning rate would allow it to be used in this manner, but again i remember the author mentioning that the sr7625 was the key to making it work. I think I'll take some time and reread it again.

Several years ago Handloader magazine had an article by Ross Seifried about low pressure loads for his Damascus barreled guns. Pressure and velocity data was included.

His best loads used SR7625.

I really like it for 1 1/4 oz. 12ga loads. Much lower felt recoil than anything else I've tried.

hodgdon lists some loads that go 1450 fps with 9 pellets of 00 buck. thats cooking pretty good too.

buckshot in my extra full choke mossberg 500 patterns very good. at least the wolf, fiocchi and sellier and bellot have. as well as remington buffered 4 buck. 27 pellets make a nasty coyote load.

9 pellets of 00 is the weight equivalent of 1 1/8 oz or so.. the 1/2 oz load would be a load equivalent of about 4 pellets of 00. Each 00 is approximately 1/8 oz. If loading 0 buck, you can get 9 pellets = approx 1 oz.

I may have to try some ultra light loads utilizing sr7625.. I have enough of it to experiment..

One gent asked me to make him up some light loads.. so I loaded him 19 pellets of #4 buck, he said out of his 870 it was pretty light but wanted something a tad lighter.. so I will next time try 17 pellets of #4 buck. IIRC I am loading this with 18 gr of Red Dot in an old fashioned AA hull. My preference is that I use a hull with a lot less internal volume so that I can take up the remaining space with fewer components.

You didn't say what size buck or what you intended to use it for. 9 00 or 8 000, is all you need for a deer load. I loaded some with 9 00 a few years ago and I don't remember how much herco. 32-34 grains probably. I killed a lot of deer with those loads at some extreme ranges. 000 is more effective than 00

Greetings Flounderman, I just measured the Buckshots that I have in hand, they were cast from WW
1. .375" in diameter, 5 of them weigh =387 grains
2. .350" in diameter, 6 of them weigh =384 grains
3. .312" in diameter, 8 of them weigh =356 grains
The last shot data could be used for Buckshot if you stay within its weight of the shot to within the same weight for Buckshot for much faster loads!
Above that you will find Buckshot load data, its fast but not as fast as the shot load data!
Please be aware the Buckshot load data is mixed with Slug load data, just be carefull.
