Twist on 311440 Hammer O' Thor

I have heard that this bullet it the shiz net for the 30-30 and would really love to get one (i'm in a group buy) BUT I got to thinking that an elongated 311440 boolit of the 185 to 200 gr range would be great for the larger capacity 30 cals (like the 30-06) No need for a drawing just have the mold maker elongate the nose and shank proportionately until it is within our weight range.

I would be in for a 190 or 200 gr mold, but could also cope with a 180 or so, just what the people want I guess.

Any thoughts guys? If this has been done before please point me to the mold as it would soon be on my must have list

More weight won't help it out any. It kills like the proverbial Hammer of Thor now. The only help it would need is a hollow point........ and from what i've experienced with it, it really doesn't need that either.

The weight change is for guys like me that when shooting cast prefer heavy for caliber projectiles, cause it is a PITA to find a reduced load for the 150 gr boolits in 300 WSM which would be another reason to get one a little heavier.

I'm sorry I have trodden on the sacred 311440 design... Just beat me back into my corner...

I agree with you 180-200 would be cool.

Even if it doesnt kill any better, my 30-06 and 300 WSM love the 180 to 200 gr bullet, so this would be awesome.

Stretch the nose a bit and lengthen the lube grooves a bit. 190'ish would be nice, especially hollow pointed.

It looks something like this. OAL is pretty close to maximum for all the magnum 30's out there.

I haven't ran it yet, but somewhere around 190. Nose length limits what you'll get.

I have a feeling that didn't help. What 338RUM is trying to say here is that this particular boolit design facilitates good accuracy with acute knockdown power in the venerable 30-30 Winchester.

    Thanks for the translation, RugerFan!

Being in Nebraska, a lot of the "cool" stuff passes us by, or we just ignore it until it goes away. In fact, we don't even have a single "shottie" in the state, just shotguns.

LOL, sorry about the confusion, I had just got off work and the idea was in my head for a long time. Me posting tired isn't a good thing I guess...

But does anyone want this mold??? I would love to get a group buy started!

I think that with the crimp groove, it needs another lube groove. Kind of like the GB for the 311440 that NOE has going on now. Shorten the nose a bit so as to be able to add the other lube groove.

I would be in for one of those.

    Guys,

I borrowed another members 311440 and I tend to like it alot. I wouldn't be adverse to a heavier bullet design, I've yet to try out the lighter design.

Just thought I'd tease you all a bit with a good photo. I can't wait this summer till I get mine. I'd like to hear a few more stories of this bullet in action on live game. All the homework I did reveals its a "DRT" (dead right there) killer.

    Just my $.02 worth.

I hope this is not a stoopid question, but, by elongating this design, how much chance is there that it will end up having to be loaded past the neck, ie, similar to what has to be done in a 98k if you wish to shoot the 8mm Maximum boolit.

For me personally, this question applies to the 30-30, both Contender and Lever, and the 30-06.
