Problem between Fiocchi hulls and Win primers

Got given a truckload of Fiocchi hulls from low recoil buck and slugs from a tactical class. Got to playing with a few tonight and Winchester primers will literally finger push in and if you can slip a fingernail under the lip, you can pull them right back out again. Never had this problem with any other hull. Is this typical of Fiocchi or are Winchester primers just cut a bit small?

What other brand should I get?

    Nevermind - fiocchi primers .2430 - winchester primers .2415

    Pretty much answers my question.

You could try putting the hull upside down on a wooden dowel or peice of round bar stock. Then using a small ball bearing thats just a little bigger than the primer hole and give it a whack. It should swage - peen the hole smaller for the 209 to hold. They do this when converting rifle brass from Berdan primers to Boxer primers.

BPI sells a primer pocket conditioner but not in 12 ga.

I thought I had seen a rig like a punch to drop into the hull and rap it to swage the primer pocket smaller ~ maybe not BPI.

In any case, I have Fiocchi 12 ga. hulls and use Winchester primers in them. They are not tight but they do not fall out and no gas leakage in mine anyway.

If they don't fall out, I wouldn't worry about it myself and if they are that loose then I am sure you can swage that pocket closed a bit to work.

Will, buy the french primers called Cheddite. They are slightly larger than american primers.
I would like a little lube with my OBAMA CARE!

European shot-shell 209 type primers are slightly bigger diameter then U.S. and the same goes for the primer socket in the bottom of the hulls.

The CCI primers take this into account and they size their 209 primers half way in-between the Euro. and the U.S. size standard so they will fit either (slightly tight on U.S. and slightly loose on Euro.)

So basically you have three options:

----- Buy the PR or BPI tool to swag down the primer pockets
    ----- Use CCI primers
----- Use Euro. brand name primers

Once swaged do they stay that way or does that operation become necessary every time you re-prime? Seems a better bet to buy large primers if that is more than a one time operation.

Well, I got to agree that larger primers if available is better but mine have worked for me.

Once swaged they should stay where they are put at least as well as any other hull.

I have found the Fiocchi's to be good hulls but... there really aren't as many recipes for them as for several other popular hulls.

I had one of those tools back in the mid-60's and it worked great. Back then, CCI's were a little bigger. I bought some Cheddites and they are a tighter fit. I also found that by giving the handle on my MEC 600 a little extra pressure on the deprime stroke, it squeezes the hole inward a little bit. Not worth wrecking your press but I've had real good luck with this method. Just go easy.
