Just the facts on 20ga slug loads

OK loaders, looking for load recipes for the 20ga slugs.

For example, my first test was with
    Winchester WAA hulls,
    W209 primers,
Regular WAA20 wads with the wings cut off,
    25 grains of HS6
and a Foster style slug from a Lyman mold.
Shot really good out of my CZ Redhead Deluxe over and under out to 75 yards. Still testing. What are your load recipes, let us know. by the way, 35 grains of HS6 in the 12 ga works great too.

It is an extrapelated load from the hadgdon book. right now, not as good as I would like to have, about a one foot circle. I have been taking off the fins from the wads but I am loojing into another idea using a 58 caliber bullet.

im gonna try loading .575 round balls inside shot cup with a half inch thick 28 gauge fiber wad. this should be an accurate slug load for a smooth bore.

    Harmon,

I have so far used .575 diameter roundballs with three .125 diameter hard cards inside claybuster wads, Winchester AA hulls. I had used two cards before but found three gives a better fold crimp. Only powder so far is Unique but found it shot best at 16gr., and it will keep them within an inch and a half at 25 yds. What powders have you had luck with.
Sometimes I think we make things harder than they have to be

    Latest trial

I have shot a couple with a 20 gauge Claybuster wad which I cut off the fins, I used the RCBS Foster Slug Mold to make my slugs,

    Winchester 209 primer
    15 grains HS6 Powder
    Wad from above
    Slug from above
Cripmed as normal fired pretty good. I have not run these through the chronograph so I don't know what the velocity is yet. Got sick with cold so I may have to wait a week or two till this thing clears up. I wonder why none of the powder companies post much information on slugs?
