I use the 178gr AMax. Incredible shooting bullet. You might try the 168gr too but I would think that you need at least 1:10" to shoot the 208gr. Mine is a 1:10 and shoots all three of them well.

I've read really good things about the VLD's if your gun will shoot them. I shoot 500m w/ Hornady's SP boat tail in my 7.5x55 Swiss, which is nearly identical to the .308 but lower pressure. I like the SP because I use the same load for hunting and long range. Less things to keep on hand. My buddy shoots the AMax at the same ranges though and they perform very well.

Sorry guys! I guess I should have specified that I am looking for a "CAST BULLET STYLE" to shoot long range (500+ yards).
My .308 loves the 168. Gr Berger VLD. All the way out to 1300yds.

Any ideas on the cast bullets for long range?

My 12 twist .308 likes the RCBS 30-180-SP. I have not shot it past 200 yards though.

I'm surprised you had to specify on this forum!
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Actually, I'm still in Egypt mostly. I now have a pot and might have a lead source and I'm hoping some time to start full blown casting, but as of now it's not possible living in my town. Hoping to be in the country some day, but have a bit to wait. Anyway, only leads I shoot now are those I buy for specific loads. 8(

I use the Lyman 311299 in my M70 target .308W with 12" twist for just such shooting at long range. I pushing to 600 yards with a muzzle velocity of 2200+ fps it just barely stays sonic.

LBT 180 SP I've used it in everything from the 30 Herret to 300WSM.

My vote would go for the 311329 or maybe the NOE 311365. Balistics will best of almost all 30's, but they are harder to develop a load for.

When I shot 1000 yd matches, I preferred sierra 175's. They "bucked" the wind much better than the 155's.

Do you have to stay supersonic? If not, I'd look to get the 247 grainers from the last group buy...I've been thinking about getting that design for all my subsonic needs. Not sure if 1:12 would stabilize it though, probably not.

I have shot the NOE 311365 and RCBS 30-180-SP for rifle sillywet matches. It maintains enough energy to knock over the rams at 500 meters. I am sorry but I have not shot it any further than that. I would give those two a try, they both work in my 1-10 twist and the RCBS does okay in my 1-13 twist 308s.

I have an older LBT 180 SP. As with most LBT it is not a bore rider. Without deepening the throat, it needs loaded wayyyy down in the case to chamber.

Couple of odd, hard to find ones, on the left, the Eagan MX3-30G, on the right, his MX2-30H. Haven't tried them at the distance you're asking about, but I have some confidence in them.
