1 oz vs 7/8 lee

Any opinions on 1 oz or 7/8 Lee slugs? I have a 7/8 oz that I shoot out of a Remington cantilever rifled barrel. I've heard the Remington has a slower twist. Do the 1oz shoot any better in the Remington?

Hello EyeShot, this is a simple 10 minute work around you can do to Lee Drive Key slug mold, wether it is a 1 oz or 7/8 oz mold to help!

Its now weighs 500 gr but I still plan to further modefy it and make it yet another 1/16 longer to get a better fit in the wad and some minute polishing.

Another way is melt it down and cast Lyman 525's with it. My slug guns will group 3" or less at 100yds. using different hand loads. With the same guns I couldn't keep the 7/8 Lee on a 1'x1' target at 50. I finally knurled the sugs on a file and got a 6" group at 50yds. Not good enough. Didn't try the 1oz they may group alot better. I think you may have a good idea there. Good Luck

Hear me out please
I was surfing the web today.
I noticed the 12 gauge Lee Slug mold at one ounce

It is cast to fit inside a normal 12 gauge wad.

The as cast diameter is .675
16 Gauge nominal bore diameter is .662

Has anyone, cast up some of these, did a liquid alox lube, run them
through a sizer to take them close to bore diameter and shoot them
in a 16 gauge gun?

I posted this on another thread but using WW's for alloy my Lee 1 oz. cast around .685".
For use in a 12 gauge cylinder bore (mine measures .730"), I size them to .680". For use in an improved cylinder (mine measures .717"), I size the .672". These sized diameters give me a snug fit in Federal 12S3 wads.
Below is a picture of my sized slugs


From left to right- unsized .685", sized to .672" and sized .680"
Using WW's for alloy and WD40 for lube, sizing to .680 is pretty easy but sizing to 672" requires a pretty fair amount of effort. I have never done it but I would think that by either step sizing and/or using a softer alloy it may be possible to size the Lee slug down to .662".

Hello Jmsj, can you post a picture of your sizing die and how much did it cost?
The .680 inch dia should be good in Fed 12S4 brown wad but in Fed 12S3 wad its not a snug fit as I just measured it and its .726 or .724 while in Fed 12S4 its .731 or .732 inch and good fit for accuracy from a Cyl bore!
I made my slug even longer to fit better in wad and for more stability, a 10 minute project on a lathe machine!

I'll try and post a picture of my slug sizing dies. I built them on my lathe and some 1.5" 1018 scrap I had layng around. They are pretty simple and only took about an hour and a half to build one.
