Lyman 429421 and 16.0-grains of 2400, though down-loaded for plinking. Fifteen-grains of 2400 with 240-grain jacketed.

In my recent tests, I was surprised to learn that 6.0 American Select gave me the best groups and more than usable velocity (plus super-clean burning) with all six of the bullets I tried. I used jacketed, plated, cast and swaged bullets from 180 to 240 grains. ALL of them simply loved 6.0 AmSel.

Most days 6.5 gr Universal under a 250k or 225 RNFP.

Lee TL429-240-SWC over 5 gr Bullseye for standard factory equivelent load......quite accurate and pleasant to shoot.

Skeeters load of 7.5 gr Unique under the 429421 or the 44-250-K for an excellent general purpose load.

Of course both are in 44 Special cases.

Long time favorite is a old 4-cav Lyman 429421 over 7.5grs Unique. Sights won't adjust enough on my new Ruger FTs, but my 4" 629 loves it..

Had another old 4-cav 429421 so I sent it off to Eric Ohlen to convert to an inset-bar HP mould and it now drops at 238grs. This bullet over 8.1grs of Unique will work within the confines of the too-short Ruger front sight.

Mine is just 6.5grs of Unique under a 250-k cast boolit; with a good crimp. I can shoot that out of my new Vaquero with out any worries; but still has enough pressure to burn all the powder well.
Has enough power to do most things I ask it to do. [If I need more power, I use my .44 mag].

Favorite .44 special for Ruger SBHs and S&W 21-4 is 6.8-7.0 grains of Unique under a Mihec H&G Kieth copy. Fast enough and hits hard enough.

6.5 grains of Unique and Lee 200 gr RNFP is what I mostly shoot in my Charter Arms 44 bulldog.

Could probably go higher, as my defense loads are 8.0 grains of Unique with 200 grain gold dots, but the higher loads aren't as much fun to shoot.

I like the keith 2400 load. Too bad it does hit near point of aim until about 200yds with my flat top.

My favorite (the one I shoot the most) is a cowboy load. 200 grain RNFP over 5.3 grains of Trail Boss. Easy on hands, brass, and gun, but devastating on steel plates.
