Painting mold cavity to reduce O.D.

Are there any good FYI's, tips, ect on painting a cavity to reduce the bullets O.D. ??
I've tried going from a 90/5/5 mix to straight clip on WW, these TC nose bullets are still to large and will require deeper seating than I want.

Mold release sprays will definitely reduce the as cast dia. of cast bullets.

    Wayne:
I don't understand what the O.D. of the boolit has to do with the seating depth.
What boolit are you casting, what diameter are you getting and what diameter are you wanting.
I never cast a boolit too large to where I could not size it down to what I wanted. The diameter of the boolit never hindered me in any way of seating the boolit the way it needed to be.

Go to Napa and get a can of Graphite Dry Film Lubricant, seems like a single coating was good for about .0002, but you can apply multiple layers and different thicknesses can be sprayed on to achieve more reduction in size. Remember if you spray the mold block faces wipe it off with solvent, otherwise you will be performing a form of "BEAGLEING", probably better to just mask off anything you don't want to change. It is just like spray paint and fast drying, when you want to remove it just dunk the mold in mineral spirits and gently scrub with an old toothbrush.

Trying to reduce borerider nose diameter, spray only nose section of mold. Nose sizing is another option.

    FYI
look up SAECO molds # 301, & 071, the noses of these starting where the TC nose ends / \ is about .003 over the lands ID

    swheeler,
Thanks, I was planning to mask off all buy the nose cavity.
I have seen a post or two where the poster showed where he used BBQ [1500*] paint on the nose part of the cavity

    Thanks

What size is the nose on your 071? I have the 073 and the nose is 275-2755. Mine was made when John Adams still owned Saeco. [ First president of IHMSA].

I'll bet the BBQ paint will go on a lot thicker than the graphite, and needing to reduce .003 you may be better off trying it first. You'll probably have to bake the solvents out of the thick coating real good before casting.

Spray a dose of the mould release on a Q-Tip and then apply a coat (thin, medium or heavy) to that part of the cavity (most often the nose) you want the diameter reduced on. Rapine makes a very good non airisol graphite mould prep that works very well for me.

Stove paint works for me. It can be easily removed with brake cleaner.

Mask off any portion you don't want to reduce and spray light coats.

Allow to FULLY dry before casting.

3M makes a High temp filler that I've used for heavy filling. You can get it at auto parts stores.

    Thanks ALL,
I'm going to give the molds a good cleaning and start with the Hi-temp paint on a Q-Tip painting only enough of the nose to allow seating where the bottom of the GC is at the bottom of the neck, but first I'll cast enough for a comparison
