If this is Brass I will take One with Small HP Pins and 1 set Flat Pins.

For the Flat Pins I meant Blank Pins. Oh heck they are for a flat point Boolit with nothing sticking out the bottom if that makes sense.

I haven't slugged the bore yet on the Marlin I recently acquired in a trade. The only castings I have on hand large enough are pretty hard, cast for a 458 Win Mag. I know the only way to know for sure the correct size is by getting off of my lazy donkey and casting some pure lead slugs.

So speaking in general terms, are the Marlin 45/70 bores usually in the 459-460 range??

The Marlins i've loaded for generally want a 0.462" boolit to be accurate. A fellow board member uses 0.463" on a couple of his and the last newest Marlins before Remington only accepted a 0.460" boolit.

THX!! Your answer pretty well sums it up that there is only one way to find it out my bore size, the right way.

I was fortunate enough to get a pre-Remmy without the Mickey Mouse safety. I got it for a straight across swap for an Iver Johnson M-1 Carbine. My Marlin hasn't seen much previous use. The young guy I swapped with claimed it was left to him by his Grandpa. The only thing I've shot through it so far has been a half box of the new Hornady Lever Revolution and 3 rds of old Remington factory jacketed he gave me with the rifle. The Remington ammo's recoil was considerably stiffer than the Hornady. Via the irons I nailed a dirt clod at the 200 yard dirt mound with the Remmy ammo. The Remington ammo was loose so I can only speculate and assume by the recoil they were pretty heavy j-word slugs

I'm recovering from surgery so health permitting I'm really looking forward to making a lead slinger out of the Marlin. I have a shooting bud that has spent as few years developing or in his words "perfecting" a 45/70 load for his H&R Buffalo Rifle. Following his lead and advice I should get a good head start.
