    #2 Shot

I'm making my own slugs for the 410 on the "Custom Slug Loads" thread, and I am gonna be going Bobcat hunting with hounds... hopefully next year, and I'm planning on making custom loads for that to. So what size shot? Would it be better to get regular lead or nickle plated? Nickle gives more penetration but would it be better for bobcat?

bobcats are not that big an animal. a treed cat isn't going to be very far away. probably within 50 ft. a 22 would be adequate at that range. 2s would probably completely penetrate a cat at that distance. I doubt you would see any difference between plated and plain lead at that distance. dead is dead.

Are you restricted to shotgun in the area you want to hunt?

Are you wanting to save the pelt for a mount? If so, you may not want more than a few holes to have to stitch up.

I'm actually gonna test the federal 3" #4 buckshot out of a xfull choke at 20-30 yards and check that out. If it doesn't perform right, then I'm considering #1 buckshot. Should find out tomorrow.

If I were hunting treed bobcats I'd use #2 or BB's in a 12 gauge with an improved cylinder choke, modified choke at the most! Number 4 shot would work well too, a bobcat ain't that big (or that tough)!
