My 45-70 likes everything I've tried in it. It's (and mine) best group to date is with a 500 grain boolit that I cast out of wheel weights and loaded over fifteen grains of Universal Clays. It was an inch and an eighth three shot group at 100 yards. Made me smile!

Many people ream the 357s to the Maximum round and love it.

Careful, they can be very addicting.

i own 4 handi's and prefer them to my expensive rifles. triggers vary a lot when new.

most of my triggers are now 45-48 oz. all have zero creep.

all are superbly accurate with my cast loads. have never fired a factory load in them.

    great value.

Best Handi Rifle combo in my opinion. I have the 22" 45-70 and love it! Go to Brownells and get the H&R brand recoil pad (grind to fit) and scope mounts. These two items really help a handi rifle shine.

These are my Handi's. The top one is a survivor model in 357 and is the most used fire arm I own. Although my standards are not as high as some, it is surprisingly accurate with most any load with the 6X scope it wears. I cast my own and shoot loads from 125 grain RNFP up to subsonic 200 grain round nose. I never go to the range with out this gun.

The bottom one is an Ultra Hunter model in 45-70. I've got molds for boolits from 200 grain plinkers up to 420 grain hollow points. It's a blast to play around with shot loads too. Mine now wears a Cabela"s Pine Ridge 2 - 7X shot gun scope.

Congratulations on obtaining two of the most popular and versatile calibers available. If I were you I'd be looking for a 22 Hornet and a 30-30 now to compleat the list. I already have these covered on a Contender platform. If you haven't already done so, you need to check out the Graybeards Outdoor Forums. The have a section dedicated to Handi's and a very
knowledgable group over there. Welcome to another addiction.....Dale

i have a Handi-Rifle in 45-70. honestly, i glued a peice of plastic on the iron sights to make the "V" smaller in the rear sight. this thing now is as accurate as a .22lr. i LOVE this rifle, and 45-70 sure packs a punch. but the rifle itself is awesome, simple, but solid and accurate.
Don't doubt my abilities and/or knowledge, or I may surprise you!!!
