    Ruger Bisley cylinder throats

    Howdy Folks,
Just bought me a brand new Ruger Blackhawk Bisley 7.5" blued in 45 LC. Before I shot this thing, I slugged the bore which seems to come out at .451" and the three cylinder throats I slugged seemed to come out to .452" which seems to be pretty good. Before I bought this gun, I was reading how Ruger undersizes the throats on the 45 LC cylinders. The package with the fired case that came in the box has a date of July of this year so I would assume this is a recent manufacture. I was expecting to have to open up the throats a bit but now I'm just going to see how it shoots before I do anything. To anyone's knowledge has Ruger changed things a bit and started sizing things correctly now? Thanks!

Perfect dimesions! Great. With a .452 or .453 diam cast that should shoot very
well. I had to ream a BH in .45 LC/ACP because both cyls had .450 and .449 throats,
and while it was not disasterously inaccurate, it always threw one or two out of the
group. Reaming and polishing all throats to .452 made it much more consistent.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.

    Mr. Bill,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, that sounded pretty good to me but it sure seemed strange that everything was the correct dimensions when I read that Ruger was undersizing their cylinder throats. Had the same problem on my 44-40 Vaqueros so I expected the same thing. That's why I wondered if Ruger had changed things. But I'm happy if it shoots well!

The stainless flattop 45colt/45acp had tight throats in both cylinders.........SS Bisley the same. Glad to hear that yours was put together right. It should be a fun!!!

I have a new Ruger FT in 45 Colt and the cylinder throats are .452. I have friends to tell me that Ruger has fixed their oversize throat problems in recent months. It looks like they may have by the specs on your pistol.
Disclaimer: The above is not holy writ. It is just my opinion based on my experience and knowledge. Your mileage may vary.

I dont have any "fresh ones" but I had to ream the 4 that I have. Also on the 44-40, if it was an early enough pistol they came with a properly chambered 44-40 cylinder ie. .427 throats. Ruger then screwed on 44 mag barrels and screwed everything up.

CONGRATS! You might try 6.5 grains of red dot under a 250 grain boolit, as a starting point.
I'll be a nice to you as you'll let me be, or as mean as you make me be.

Thanks for the replies. That would be great if ruger fixed the problems. As for my 44-40's I still have to ream them out. The throats on them are .425 with a .430 barrel.
