    338 federal twist rate?

putting new barrel on, 338 federal, 20 inch tube, thinking that 1-10 is the way to go for both j and cast, but possibly 1-12 might be better for the cast and the j's will just have to stay on the 180 to 200gr. side and not the 250 and up.

    What your experience say?

Confusion say check this out. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...ght=twist+rate Be careful with your numbers in the Greenhil formula, the constants are different for different types of bullets.

Questioning the twists for .338 diameter boolits...

Anyone have data to contribute to a discussion?
Not just .338 Federal but other cartridge case designs also?
I'm looking at maybe going with a .338 on an expanded volume .303 case base. A little hesitant about one turn in 10" as opposed to a slower twist. Then again, lighter boolits at slower speeds... hmm, maybe so, maybe so.

Good Cheer, I shoot a .30-40 Krag blown out to .338 with 225 grain cast bullets at 2400 fps in a 12 twist Lilja barrel. Shoots good. I also shoot 240 grain cast bullets at 1400 fps. Also shoots very good.

I have a 338/06 and a 338/280 C (think 338/06 -06 Acley improved with the shoulder moved forward .060:") Both of them have 1 in 10" twists and shoot Lee and Lyman 225 gr boolits at 2550fps with great accuracy and no leading (hardball alloy with LBT Blue).

    .

AFAIK, the 1 in 10" twist will handle all boolits in the .338 federal.
