You could worry about it, or you could hit one or two with a hammer and calm your fears...

Fair enough. I plan to try shooting the softer stuff and see if it is accurate. If not, I will start working my way up the hardness scale.

Does that sucker have a hallmark on it? I don't trust myself to buy unmarked items, especially the statue and frame type items.

It is a signed Ricker studio pewter figurine. Ricker is on the back just above the base.

Just started hunting for pewter this year after reading this thread. 1st few trips to the local good wills only produced 4 small items totaling 1lb 12oz. But today I found this nice 2lb 2oz pitcher for $3.99.

Use the history feature on that auction site, to check prior sales. Statues can be worth more than the metal content. Or not.

At rotometals you are looking at $20/lb. I feel like I did ok if I get it for $5/lb, good at $3/lb, and great at anything less than that.

Reading back through this thread, it looks like most of these guys try to get into pewter for $3 to $5 a pound.

The "good" price for any commodity depends on how much of it you have and what your prospects are for getting more. You can buy as much pewter as you like in our Swapping and Selling section for $8 a pound carried to your door already in useable ingots.

So a good price would be $8 minus whatever cost you put on your time and trouble.

$3 to $5 is what most of the pewter the wife has found for me has cost. Yesterday she came home all excited saying "look what I've got for you"! She had a nice pewter platter she paid $1.50 for. It had a $3 price tag, but got it for half price. It weights 2 lb 10 oz!

Large platters are always good weight. Area increases dramatically vs. diameter, plus they have to make them a little thicker so they don't bend when loaded.

Y'all have inspired me to take up the pewter hunt, with all the info provided here I think I'm off to a pretty good start. So here's my contribution to the thread.

A few more, then a group pic on the scale. Some items I neglected to get any photos of were a Seagull brand napkin holder, a Daalderop made in Holland tray, a handful of table cloth weights, and some Christmas ornaments/knick knacks.
