30 cal., 2 lube groove, gas checked, hollow point w/ adj. point depth.

I traded for a homemade version of this mold. Honestly, the mold is probably beyond repair. I want one. This would be a great varmint boolit for my 300 Whisper. Anyone else in one this? I would love to have an NOE mold made. Brass with Cramer HP would be ideal.

I'd be interested in one, maybe a 2 cavity version?

Count me in, too. I have the original Ness article somewhere, and have been wanting to try it. Anything that strange just grabs my attention and won't let go. Ness never got very good accuracy with his, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Factor to consider is that Ness had to cast his of very high antimony alloy (12% ? ? ) to make them fragment properly. The diameter of that long nose will be crucial.

Since this is a hollowpoint only boolit, I'd like to get the RG2 and RG4 style molds.

    RG2 $96
    RG4 $126
Set of extra pins for the RG2 $4
Set of extra pins for the RG4 $8

Shipping to you with insurance will be $10

A Lyman, RCBS type top punch is included along with a sample of Bull Plate sprue lube.

This is a good idea. Maybe we could get a couple of diameters. Perhaps something like .303/.311 for our .30-30s, .308s and .30-06s, and .304 or .305/.316" . I am thinking of .303 Brit and other milsurps on second suggestion. The .303s would like a .305 bore ride, but lots of Mosin Nagants want a .314" bullet and it would be easy to size one down from .316".

It would also be fitting if we could get the Ness name stamped on it to honor him.

If this were a Miha Cramer style mold, 4 cav, I would be in.

Not a big fan of the NOE style hanging pins.

I believe feeding thru my Whisper would be - problematic at best. But in a 30/30 Contender, maybe.

I have a H&G #38. Mine looks just like George's, but my pin appears to go much deeper than his does. His looks to go to the base of the nose or to the crimp groove. Mine goes all the way to the first driving band. Because of the depth and minimum taper of the HP, I think an RG or Cramer style mold will have trouble with boolits not releasing from the pins. This is just my opinion though, as it might work. I just think it will be tough to get them to release easily. Mine casts a little over .310, I would be interested in one that cast .316.

Truly, what I would really like is a 2 cavity, one cavity .311, one at .316, both set up for HP's. Then I could use the same pin on each, and just cast as a single with which ever diameter I wanted. Then have one pin like George's and a deeper one like mine that is interchangeable. But I'm guessing that might be tough to do.

Another option would be to see if Al could do this type of setup on one like the current 311290 GB that is running, or something similar. The bore riding nose could be drilled out the full diameter and a pin of some sort fitted to make the same type of boolit. Wouldn't be an exact copy, but they made several versions according to the old articles.

Love casting small boolits, let me know if you have one that I don't that you would part with!

The first reference to the “No Glance Bullet” I have found is the blurb in the Dope Bag in January 1938.
Then the article “Sure Kills and No Ricochets” by F.C. Ness.
I forgot about the June 1935 issue of the Rifleman

I would like to try this bullet but I don’t care for brass molds and don’t need more than a two cavity mold.

Bcall, would you be willing to post some measurements of the boolit for us? I can get an AutoCAD or Solidworks drawing done up.

Not sure what measurements you want, but not having any way to accurately measure all of the boolit, I can only give you some general measurements

From tip to tip it is .876 long. From the base to the top edge of the upper band is right at .500 or just a touch under, leaving a .376 nose. Nose on mine is right at .300 and the bands measure fatter than I thought, at .312 to .313. (I guess I sized to .310, that must be where I got .310 from.) You can see the front band doesn't have a sharp edge, more like an abrupt taper to the nose. 2 rounded lube grooves approx .028 deep, and roughly .070 wide. 2 bottom bands toughly .100 wide.

Like I said, these are very rough measurements.

I agree. If this makes for a Cramer style mold I'd be in. Otherwise I think I'll pass.

Oh, on edit. No gas check for me.

I would be interested in a brass MiHec mold for this one. (The woodchucks will be sorry they burrowed into my garden...!)

PS: Adjustable depth HP pin (if possible) would be a DEFINITE plus.

I've used mine in every .30 cal rifle I have and it works well. .30 Carbine, 7.62X39, 30-30, 30-40, 308, 7.62X54, 7.5 Swiss, 30-06. It's never been touted as a home defence boolit, but I know after seeing them shot into just snow how nasty they'd be. I never saw need for trying it more than 100 yds, and at if you read my threads or looked at my on line Cartridge Springfield's album to see the old articles or some of my testing, you'll see what I mean. http://www.sodcity.com/gallery2/view...d-pictures-etc

Beagle was thinking about making one out of an old single cavity 311291 or 311299 until I mentioned how the profile looked more like a 311290. The leading edge is wide enough to hold the rifling and 1" groups are usually easy if the gun is capable of that with ball ammo.

if that blunt nose will feed in an AR 300 BLK I would be in for an RG4.

I would be in for this one if it was a MiHec cramer style mold. would not be interested if it was run in the NOE RG style.

I would be interested in this mould, and not concerned about the particulars.

I am working on the CAD now. I am getting some samples which will help get the dimensions perfect.
