Any thoughts using this powder with the 45-270-SAA (273 grains)...
Appears to have a burn rate in the Unique range...
The handgun would be a Blackhawk...
Thanks...BCB

Excellent choice. Not like Unique, but Herco. For 250 grainer 44 boolits, about a half grain faster than Herco. 10 grains max in that, so start with 12 grains in 45Colt unless someone else has a choice load. The powder is exceptionally clean burning and WILL take reduced loads well. ... felix

Ahhhh, haaaa...
So if it is a bit slower than Unique and I am using 9.0 grains of Unique with the 283 grainer (I made a mistake saying 273 grains in my previous post). Could a guy start with that load rather than 12 grains and work towards that 12 grain load?...
Thanks...BCB
I find it to be a lot closer to Unique than Herco.

Sure, Bruce, 9 grains might be light, but OK. ... felix

felix,
You are correct, as usual!!!...
I did start with 9.0 grains and I have worked up to 12.0 with no pressure signs at all...
I did chronograph the light loads, 9.0 grains of SR-4756 and it is nearly 300 fps slower than the same charge of Unique...
It certainly is much slower than Unique, and maybe slower than Herco?...
Regardless, I feel very secure moving up 0.5 grain at a time from the 12.0 grains recommended as the starting load...
Thanks for the data to begin with...

I've seen 4756 listed in the data books and had wondered about it. Sounds like a good powder if it burns clean even when downloaded. I have also heard that is has less flash than a lot of other powders.
Tell me, though, does it meter well? Better than Unique, for example.... or more uneven like 800X?
Measures like a ball powder. ... felix

Yessir, very even charges through my RCBS Duo-Measure.
This fuel is THE POWDER for 32-20 WCF revolver ammo. The wild velocity swings encountered with other powders disappeared immediately, and group sizes shrunk DRASTICALLY. Team up a S&W M&P x 5" with 6.0 grains of SR-4756--either #311316 or #311008 or similar boolit sized to the throats--and a small pistol primer, and go hunting. If the revo is smaller--Colt PP Special--tone the powder down to 5.5 grains, and hold on.
