Best alloy for 86 Winchester 45-90

Have an early reproduction 86 Winchester/Miroku over at Turnbull Mfg Co being rechambered to 45-90.

I currently have Tom at accurate molds making me a LBT style LFNGC mold that should drop at 400 grains or so.

Going to limit the maximum velocity to under 2,000fps.

My question is what alloy should I use for casting?

Any guidance is really appreciated.

I am surprised that Tom at Accurate did not discuss alloy with you as this plays a huge part in his process to produce you a correct size mould. The moulds that he made for me were with my submitting a alloy sample.
Most people shooting the 1886 rifle stay in the 1-20 range. The factory bullet was a 300 grain 1-16 alloy and loaded with smokeless powder at the turn of the century and as noted by Mike Venturino in his fine book Shooting Lever Actions of The Old West. This gun may be used with either powder as long as you keep the pressures the same for the smokeless as that of the BP ammo. The repro rifle that you have will fire any load that is listed in any manual.

I use 20 to 1 with a LBT 400 grain in 45-70. Should work fine in the 45-90

I have an original 86 Winchester 45-90 which shoots nothing but 20-1.

What I was looking for is what the guys are shooting in the new reproduction models.

Did have Tom cut the mold for WW's and figure I will get a slighly heavier one with either a 50/50 mix or a 20-1 mix.

I have a jap Win 86 LT. WT. in 45-70. I have not yet pushed a 350 grain WW GC past 1800 fps but it works just fine with 3031 type powders. I did fire lap the barrel before shooting it much and there are no tight patch snagging points in the barrel.
