    press/dies question?

I’m new to reloading and I have a question about presses and dies. Can dies from one manufacture be used with a press from another manufacturer, for instance using Lee dies in a Lyman press?

Modern dies and presses are nearly all compatable. Dillon's SDB uses proprietary dies. 7/8 - 14 is the standard thread size.

All dies made with the bench mount type of system and also some hand type such as a Lee will interchange brand wise. They all share the 7/8 x14 thread. They are far from being equal when it comes to how they work and the ammo they produce. In order of how I buy. RCBS, Redding, Dillon, Lyman. You will receive the best service from RCBS bar none. 10 years from now and they will fix a problem for free.

Dillon SDB (square deal B) dies are a smaller exception as are some larger swagging and 50 BMG dies. Someone makes some screw in shotgun dies that are larger also.

Other dies from Dillon are 7/8"-14 and the majority of normal modern dies are too.
