    Modify roll crimpers.

I don't know if I've been the only feller that's had to do this, but I just thought I'd ask...

I found that I had to make the dimple in the center of my BPI roll crimps wider and much deeper for use on round ball loads- when I roll crimp. The little "dimple" isn't anywhere wide or deep enough for use if you want to crimp down around a round ball tightly. I had to go very thin on the inside near the crimp ring to be able to crimp round balls in my 10- the 12 wasn't so bad.

Just wanted to see if I was the only one with this problem and solution.

Good morning Andy, years back when Lyman was making the roll crimpers and they were the best, they came in two versions 1, for roll crimping over shot cards in a shot shell.
2, for roll crimping rifled slugs ( these ones had a dimple cut in the middle to accomodate the slug/round ball.

    You have a wonderful day.

BPI, makes a lot of good stuff, there roll crimp isn't one of them. It gave me problems too. Someone recommended Precision reloadings roll crimper to me, so I picked one up and never looked back, perfect roll crimps every time.

Is the Precision Reloading crimper made of metal or is it plastic?

I also want to reiterate that there is nothing wrong with the crimping itself, just that it wouldn't go down far enough.

Greetings, let me point it out that my roll crimper at times is not cut deep enough in the middle and I need to cut it even more for certain bullets in sabot.

and this is the roll crimper version made specially for slugs!

I have a couple of roll crimpers, One is a Lyman, and I forget the other becuase I rarely use it, but I honestly think the best one I have is the $12 nylon crimper sold by Precision Reloading. No lubrication needed, and perfect crimps every time. I've been tempting to try BPI's double pin model, but I really see no need as long as the nylon one works.

I have one 10 gauge crimper from precision made from steel that makes a real nice crimp and then another one from Precision in .410 that is a little small in diameter as it makes a noticeable step in the end of the shell.

Both of these are made of steel.

The BPI one with the pins makes a square looking crimp with sharp edge that is not what I'd call a nice crimp.

Do you use these in a reloading press or on a drill press?
I know it sounds like a stupid question but inquiring minds need to know.

    Hi Swede,
Here's how I make the roll crimps for my 10 ga shells. Use a drill press.
