Experiments are only failures if they fail to prove the hypothesis. If your experiment proved that you made expensive flux, the lube was a failure, but the experiment itself was a success.

Ben, I've been using that stuff for years. That and it's forest-green brother, Assemblee Goo, made by another company. Difference is, I use it to hold thrust washers and checkballs in place when building automatic transmissions, or to hold loose bearing rollers for manual transmission gears and countershafts in place. Once used it to hold the 4,208 (no exaggeration, the truth) rod and main roller bearings of a Mercury Black Max engine together while I assembled the lower block cradle, which comprises all four main bearing caps. Kinda like trying to hold 50 lbs of loosel of marbles all at once with just your two bare hands.

The stuff has some interesting, and some frustrating qualities. In the Texas Summer, it turns into the kind of stuff that falls from the sky after a flock of ducks pass overhead, and it don't hold squat in place, it just melts and runs. In the winter, it has to be nuked in the microwave to get it out of the tub without a chisel. This quality alone is why I never considered it for boolit lube, if anything, I'm looking for something with as little viscocity change as possible over a wide range of shooting temperatures, say from 25 to 105 ambient as a good range for me.

Something else to check out, there is a MiG welder's nozzle dip that is pure paraffin wax, tinted a nice sky blue, and is the consistency of really thick vaseline, but not very sticky and is smooth as silk. Kinda looks like LBT Soft.....

    Gear,

Well, the good part of this is I don't have a ton of this on hand . I still want to shoot some of it to see what it will do ? ?

a slight [60-40] combination of the red and blue with the atf [from the red] could prove out also.
the atf really helped my moly/white lith/carnuba lube become a better multi temp lube.
once i found the carrier to lube ratio i needed.

This may require a little bit of " tweaking " which I'm prepared to do.

    Stay tuned................

What if you used B&M trick shift. It's a blue atf. Although not expensive

I thought trick shift contained PTFE which is usually frowned upon in bullet lube. Could be wrong but I'd sure check before I used it.

Honestly not sure. It's in my street rod, but I've never made my own lube nor attempted it. Just saw atf and figured it was blue so why not

Good morning There in is why I like natural ingredients for lubes.. if it fails I can always add it to my oatmeal. So far olive oil & Bwax mixes are all I am permitted to mix in the kitchen as long as I never let it catch fire.
That Ben´s Blue reminds me of mini icebergs... should work !

    Pat :

Just thought I would mention that for new members to take a bit of caution with it.

That is some VERY wise advice !

I never melt lube in the kitchen......My wife would go Kazoo if she walked into her kitchen and I was melting bullet lube.

    Remember Gear's Rule #1 and 2:

#1 When pouring or transferring materials, the quantity spilled is directly proportional to either it’s value, hazard, or the degree of difficulty in cleaning it up.
#2 Improve our national marital statistics: Stay out of SWMBO’S kitchen with boolit stuff.

I have made Felix lube in the kitchen, very little odor involved. Anything else would be an outdoors kind of thing. I prefer to invite marital harmony over friction.

    Wink

Gear's right, the only thing I get to do with boolit stuff in the kitchen is wash & dry my new moulds.

I must not be making FWFL correctly if very little odor is involved...

Or the value of that which you are spilling it on coupled with the impossibility of removing it from said object once spilled. (IE any form of wax on the living room sofa).

    725 :

    Thanks for your inquiry.

The group below is sub inch for 5 shots. 4 of the bullets are in about 5/8" or so.
This was fired with my 308 Win. bench rifle , lube was Ben's Blue.

Bore is clean after 50 rounds.

I'd say that the lube is doing pretty well, what do you think ?

    Ben,
In answer to your 8/21 post, I can just say it's another enviable group. Over the years you have posted so many good photos of your works and have helped so many of us along the way. I have come to expect your stuff to be top shelf. Love to read about all your efforts. I'd say "Ben's Blue" is another success. Keep it up.

Your very kind with your words, I hope I'm worthy of 5% of that.

Best to you and good shooting to all of you,

    Ben
