Question 69 romania, are they all like mine?

I was wondering if the finish on my stock is original? Its a silvery dark gray color and theres sags and runs in it. My father has one that was purchased with this one and his is like this too. I was curiouse if any were natural wood or if anyone sanded them down and refinished them. I'm a woodworker as well as reloader and was thinking of refinishing this one. I'm curious of what type of wood it is and if they look good in natural finish.

    thanx,

    Romanian 69?

Mine was made in 1987 and looks to be factory finish. Serial # L0187.
Stock is beechwood with a dark lacquer/varnish finish with runs and lumps.

Due probably to the twist and groove size it is the only .22 I have that shoots the
Aguila SSS 60 grain ammo with any accuracy.

I don"t think the finish on your gunstock is the way it came from the old country.

When they were coming over we sold literally hundreds of them. Never saw one with a stock finish like that.

Mines a lacqor finish not painted, I'd refinish it. Mine also shoots pretty well - just wish I could find magazines at a reasonable price.

    $24 each plus shipping

    19.95 each plus shipping

If you find the Russian Junior subsonic training ammo it shoots real well and is pretty quiet - really good when I have the suppressor on it.
(yes, I put more money than I paid for it to have the front sight set back and threaded 1/2x28 for a can - it just shoots so good. bounces golf balls at 100 on demand)

Does anyone have 10 rd mags for theromanian? I've seen people looking for them on the net but havent seen any evidence that they exist.

None exist that I've seen. When they were coming over some didn't have mags so the importer had some made, so a few spare 5 rounders pop up from time to time.

I have 2 romanian 1969s, both of em started with the dark brown lacquer and covered in a cosmoline substance. one of em is still stock and they both shoot like the dickens. worked the trigger on em both, they were a little raspy and have smoothed out and crisped up nicely. my go-to guns other than an old mossberg military target for precision and repeatability. I've got a Waltz die on order... wondering if I can get a clover leaf into a raged hole :P.
I recently ordered 4 mags from liberty tree and those should be at the house waiting for me when i get off the ship. Expensive as all get-out but I've been looking for years and I plain Got tired of having one mag. hope they run as smooth as the ones that came with the rifles.
Cheers, It's not a stock finish, but it sure looks good from here

I bought a mod 69 when they first started showing up.
I bought 3 or 4 extra mags for it back then too...they were cheap then $8 or $10 each ???,
I guess I was lucky to buy them then.
    wood stock was laquored...
I left it as is...no refinishing or such.
It shoots great, I've shot it in Rifle league one year...took 2nd place in the open sites division.
I love the 3 tier rear site.

$8 or $10 must have been before I got mine - I balked at $19.95 - keep hoping to find them cheaper - I think I remember reading someone converted a 10 round mag for some other 22 to work in the Romanian 1969 - I'll have to google and hope I find it as I lost a bunch of links and stuff with other day with a crash. Pits when the old back up discs won't work with current version of Windows.

    Artful,
    $19.95...how long ago ?

    I can't remember exactly what I paid ?
SO, I looked it up...in Oct. 2000, I paid $64.99 for the rifle from a gunshow dealer
and I mailed ordered 3 clips for $8.11 each from S.O.G. that same month.

I bought one several years ago. I believe it was around the $80 mark. Came with 2 mags, which I could not get to feed multiple types of ammo. The gun had become a single shot. I very accurate one though. I let it go.
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.

They are still on the open market - I don't see any companies offering the deals they were - going from 80.00 - 160.00 depending upon condition - check usual places like cabela's, gunbroker, guns america, etc - If you just want a good bolt gun check walmart they carry the Savage Mark II out here for reasonable
