Will cast boolits put on weight as they get older?

I was just kinda wondering. I have read at different times, that cast boolits can shink or expand over time. Does this equate to weight gain?

Suppose after intial casting, my 45-70 boolits weigh 468 grains. I then store them individually away in a loading block and forget about them for a couple of years.

Then I find them and decide to load them, using the data I had originally, two years before.....lets say 45 grains of H-322, in Starline brass and WLR mag primers, using the the orginal 468 grain data. But now those same boolits, increased in girth and weighs 472 grains instead of 468 grains. Can this....does this happen?

I really do not know, so I thought I would just throw it out here and see what comes back.

Be intresting to see if cast boolits become like their owners over time.

The concern is, if the bullet had put on weight (inwhich I was not aware of) and I do not change my powder charge, could there be an unkowningly increase in pressure?

Don't worry they don't eat while in storage. Your bullets won't weight any different one way or the other although antimony alloyed boolits can grow in diameter if water quenched or oven heat treated and some even see larger diameters with air cooled.

Nope. Not physically possible. Wish the same were true of me.

I keep my boolits on a strict no calorie diet and they have maintained their original weight for their whole lifetime!

Well, if you marry them, they will gain weight. Mostly in the base.

Have some that have picked up size. .0003-.0004. Higher antimony content may give a bit more.

There is no way they can gain weight. They can get bigger or smaller, but adding mass is not possible.

Actually, if they oxidized the additional oxygen would increase the weight a minuscular amount. But you'd notice that amount of oxidation and probably wouldn't shoot them anyway. Not even sure if you could detect the weight gain with a typical reloaders scale.

OMG....your're responses have been great! Not quite the direction I was heading in. Wasn't really thinking of the paralells to us older casters.

But.....if castboolits are like their casters.....
Then you know....that you are a redneck caster...when your boolits are (fill in the blanks).

On the serious side of things.....would I/should I....resize them then?

I dropped one of my looobed boolits on the rug and it gained a lot of weight, enough to reduce the load!
So much dog hair it looked like a porcupine!
I never have to buy filler.

+1 on the dog hair carpet. Collecting enough to try to make a saddle blanket.

If you keep them away from the all you can eat places and they get a bit of good
excercise, they can maintain their original weight for a very long time.

This phenomenon only happens to people and airplanes.

Gosh....I just want to copy and paste all of you guy's and gal's responses....

So....am I a redneck caster, if I use bacon fat from breakfast, for my groove lube?
and....could the bear smell the bacon as the boolite flies throught the air?

If I swell around the middle and my boolits are swelling around the middle...are my boolits having sympathy pains?

You know guys and gals....we sure can have a lot with this!

Yep, bacon fat can make your boolits oversized over time (like me) you may
(no joke) be in danger of killing your dog if he eats a few of them because they smell
    so nice.

I think my boolits have been sneaking snacks on the side....when no one is looking.

Their girth looks a little larger then when I put them to bed.
