Good stuff. I always throw several cloves in each jar when I pickle peppers. They are all the better after picking up some pepper heat.

We've bought a couple jars from Cabelas and have them setting on the bar.
Whewee, they are good. Especially with a homebrew.

Can you just put some fresh cloves in with some store bought dill pickles (Jug), kept in the Frig?

I grow a LOT of garlic and I love it pickled. I`ve tried a lot of recipes for pickling garlic. This my favorite.

2 pints of peeled garlic cloves
    1/4 cup sugar
    2 cups cider vinegar
    1 bay leaf
    1/4 tsp. peppercorns
    2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. celery seed
dry chiles or crushed red peppers to taste
2 pint jars or 4 1/2 pint jars

Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes and pour into hot, sterilized jars.
With potholders, screw the lid and sealers on tight and let cool.
Chill it for at least a day to let the flavors develop.
I add 2 dried chilles to each pint .

Peeling the cloves is a real pain. The easiest way I have found to do it, seperate the cloves and cut off the lower end were it attaches to the bulb. Toss it in boiling water for 2-3 minutes and toss it into cold water. That seem to help loosen the skin.
    Enjoy....dale

    Pat,
this is half of my 2011 crop.
the other half is in my neighbors garden, Instead of cash for tilling his garden, I get space.
this is Hardneck garlic (Chesneck Red and Armenian Porcelain), it keeps for about 10 months, so I have no need for pickling....except for snacking.

sorry, this photo makes your computer screen look crooked

    Capt Walt,
I always love reading your posts.
I'm not looking for any Hops and/or exotic weeds
If you have some shooting/casting eqipment or supplies that'd be great,
or if we're sticking with the culinary...does anyone grow vanilla beans in Maine ?

    grisy11,
My Garlic will be harvested in Mid. July.
The largest will get replanted in early Oct.
the smallest are saved for consumption.
the med. sized ones I sell at the farmers markets.

Are you wanting some for seed stock ? or just for eating ?
Because to be honest...besides the shipping,
I charge alot more than the grocery store charges for California Garlic (softneck Garlic) which eats just fine.
But I only charge $2 per bulb, That's about half of what the Seed catalogs sell these varieties of Hardneck Garlic...and they are usually small sized.

Minnesota has a large Garlic festival once a year, near where I live, I always go.
    http://www.sfa-mn.org/2011/02/05/garlic-festival/
there will be many Garlic growers there. Besides the Party atmosphere,
many Garlic growers have booths and sell seed stock. There will be 50 to 100
varieties of Garlic for sale, they each have their own distinct flavor, hardiness, and size. The prices are usually in the realm of the following. $1 each bulb for small bulbs, $2 each for Med. Size, and $3 for Large...and there is usually some extra large for $4 or $5 each. If you research a certain variety, I may be able to get some for you....Oh and of course the exception to the going rates would be rarity.

I choose Chesneck Red for it's hardiness and it's realtive commonality. I choose The Armenian Porcelain for it's Large clove size...the drawback is there is only 2 or 3 cloves per bulb. But given that the bulb is the same size as a variety like Chesneck Red and Chesneck Red will have 10 or 11 cloves, just sayin'

Wow- that is awesome Jon. I can't wait to get back to gardening.

We've got a ton of space up here just sitting. I used to help my Grandparents grow their vegetable gardens, and had my own as a kid.

I want to put in a grapes and garlic.
