    Security Six problem

I got this Ruger in a trade a week ago.
Did the usual cleaning, fluffing and buffing.
The more I fix it the more problem I have with the cylinder latch.
It does not want to release unless I bump it with a tool. [small plastic hammer].

The latch has a screw that it pivots on and it is staked rather heavily in place.
It seems that the release button needs more stroke. Needs to go in further.
Has anyone fixed a problem such as this. I suspect a lot of the Ruger guns use the same kind of latch.

Am I going to get into trouble if I take it apart? I know that the cylinder latch when depressed locks up the hammer.
Help before I take too much material off the wrong place.

Had a SS in here a few weeks ago exhibiting the same symptoms. Turns out, all it needed was the ejector rod tightened a bit, and it worked fine.

I have had the ejector rod on Colt DAs back out too & it will really make them hard to open.

    Woo Hoo!!!!

    Fixed it.
The screw that the latch button pivots on was bent. Is one of those proprietary screws that is threaded on the head end with the tip end smooth. Sure don't want to loose it or break it.
Looks like someone sat on it hard.
Been reading about another Security Six with a cylinder gap problem. This one has a three thousandths gap. Might be too close?
I don't want to call that a problem till I shoot it a few hundred times.
Thanks for your interest and help.
One of the first things I do with a new, used gun is check the tightness of all parts.
I have had several guns tied up because of debris under the ejector star.
    Check that first.

Or tried like hell to get the cylinder open when the ejector rod was loose...

Glad to hear it was a cheap fix..

My Taurus 66 would not let the cylinder open out once due to the ejector rod coming unscrewed. The only way to get it open was to remove the right side plate, internal parts, and push the rod forward. I used an exploded diagram to reassemble. Works fine now. I need to put some Loctite on the threads. Now where did I put that bottle of Loctite?
