    MIHEC Heavyweights

I like Miha's hollow point moulds, but would like to see them offered in heavier weights.

    Would anyone be interested in:
    147gr 9mm (currently I've only saw 125gr)
    180gr 40 cal (I only know of 150 and 160 grain)
    230gr 45 (as opposed to 200gr)
    180gr 38 caliber.

I think the idea is to keep the boolits lighter, so the velocity is high enough for the boolit to expand properly. And it saves lead!

I would be interested in a Mihec 358 WFN GC design anywhere between 180-200 grains. Not interested in a SWC design though. I have Mihec's 359640PB and although I could do without the double crimp grove it is an excellent bullet overall. I wouldn't mind having one of his brass cramer molds in a GC design that has a little more weight to it. I also have mihecs 160gr 40 cal mold and would also probably have to buy a mihec 180gr 40 cal. brass cramer mold if that one was run.

SethD, I agree 100%. I too have the 359640 and love the design even if it has an extra, and possibly unneeded, crimp groove. I too prefer RNFP to SWC.

I do agree that it saves lead, which is why I typically like to have a light weight mould for every caliber. I have a 125gr 9mm mould on the way from Miha and will buy a 40 cal if he still has one in stock on payday.
I don't agree with keeping the bullets lighter to expand properly. If bullets of the same weight can be driven fast enough to curl back a much harder copper jacket, surely the same can be done with a material as soft as lead with a little tin added. I've had some problems with over expansion in some cartridges with cast hollow points. It seems there is a smaller velocity window for proper performance with cast hollow points.
These would also be good for other cartridges. The 125gr bullets may be okay for 9mm Parabellum, but 147gr bullets would also work in the cartridge. The heavier bullets may be a better choice for cartridges like the 357 SIG, 38 Super or 9x23. Likewise the 180gr 40 cal would be good for 10mm owners. The purpose of having Miha do them is that having both penta pins and round pins gives you more options to get proper expansion with whatever cartridge you choose and at specific impact velocities.
You do have a good point thenaaks, and I respect your advice.

I asked Miha if he could do heavier weights with any of the cherries he already had and got this reply.

I'm going to see how many orders we need to get these made and the cherries cut.

Miha said we need 20 orders to get these made. I'd like to see at least 25 sign up just in case something comes up that a couple of people can't pay at the time of the order.

Also, does anyone else think it may be a good idea to start a seperate thread for each bullet weight?

Does anyone have any designs drawn up for bullets that would fit the parameters for these bullets? Any suggestions as far as nose length, meplat, number, depth and type of lube grooves or anything else you can think of.

Not really going for that, but a similar bullet of 180 grains with a single crimp groove. I gave it it's own thread here:

The single crimp 360640 has been around awhile. Here is the original 45 2.1 design and bullets from a BRP mold. I was lucky enough to get solid and an HP old before Bruce closed his operation !

Here is another BRP design for reference.

I like the idea of a 147g. 9mm. I use that grain in a jacketed subsonic hollowpoint and it is a great shooter. I'd like to see the 230g 45 also!

What about a heavy .44 boolit? Been looking for something heavier than 250gr, but have had no luck so far.

Am in the market for 180 gr. for the 38-357class without a gas check. Have several for the 45acp already. Thanks
