    Star sizer with a motor

This is my first post here so we will see how it goes. I bought a Star to replace my worn out leak-o-matic. I had adapted th hydraulic system from a convertible top car to make it do all the work for me. it did fine but I wanted to make my new Star all electric. I did some checking as to just how much power it would take and chose a 1/2 HP motor and a 20 to 1 reducer rated for 1 HP. I made the belt tensioner so it could be adjusted to what ever I needed to push the bullet through. Not wanting to spend any more than I had to I used simple wall switches to cycle the machine and to stop it at the top of the stroke. The wood cams that turn off and on the switch don't seem to be wearing out the switch very fast and the hole in the plywood wheel is holding up much better than I had expected. I have sized around 5000 bullets so far and the rubber band that make the switch that I bump with my knee a momentary switch is the first to go at 3000 or so cycles. i have sized everything from 9 MM yo 300 gr. .45s. It does them all with easy. I welcome any feedback and suggestions.

Well dang thats clever. If you made an automatic feeder, you could set that thing up to run and come back to a bunch of fully lubed bullets. Once I get my new reloading station setup, I plan on doing just that with an auto bullet feeder, the air pressure plunger, and now a motor thanks to you. Ooo maybe a linear actuator. ..... off to the drawing board.

That is too cool. I would never have the patience to think up all the mechanics it took to develop that.

    You are the man.

I like it. Only suggestion I'd make is for safety is to move your momentary from your left knee to using the hand you use to drop the boolit in the sizer. Keep your fingers from accidentally getting sized and lubed.

    I'm still in awe!

Are you using a washing machine motor?

    Jarel,

Very cool! It looks almost too simple, which is of course means that it was very well done.

Can you post a video showing the operation from the side so that we can see the linkages moving?

    Thanks,
    John

Very neat and looks to be very well done. It is amazing how great the human mind is when it comes to solving problems.
