How many pounds of wheel weight lead does it take to make 100 170 grain lead .357 bullets? I want to make sure when I start casting that I have enough and don't run out when I am outside away from the house. I figure 100 is good to start off with.

A good healthy double handful of raw wheel weights will get you done.
A little over 2 lbs should get it done.
I would melt at least 4 though because some pots are hard to cast with once they are close to empty.
Simple math= 2.48 lbs.If you don't spill any.
Just to make this obvious.... 170 gr. boolits x 100 boolits = 17000 grs of lead. Lead is 7000 gr. per lb. 7000 x 2.5 = 17500 grs. So, 2.5 lbs. will get you there with enough for about 3.5 boolits left over. BUT I'd put more in the pot so that you're not scraping the bottom of the pot (if you ladle, that is.) So now you can figure all of that yourself.
Some people should not be casting,or be reloading ammo?
Mail all rejects to me and I will dispose of them for ya.
Not to pile on, but how do people reload w/o a basic understanding of the units of measure used? A 5# chunk will get you far if you don't like doing the match.
Well, as a beginner it was just a thought, since where I will be casting is a ways from the house. I have only one good working arm right now, so I didn't want to have to haul all the extra lead out just to start up. I can figure out math, but being I am new at this I thought I would ask the question.
Teach a man to fish, not have him wait around for some cool bird to just drop it from the air. Thats what fishhawk was tryin to do..
I was going to give the OP the benefit of assuming that he was not asking how much clean lead is needed for 17000 grains of boolits. I assumed he wanted to know how many pounds of dirty WW were needed for 17000 grains of clean lead.

Every reloader needs to know 7000 grains is a pound. Of course if you want to reload in Europe you might want to know that 65 mG is about 1 grain.
I do the math the other way round. 7000grains/lb / 170grains /boolit = 41.1 boolits/lb
So 2 lbs of lead gives you 82.2 boolits so 3 lbs will get your 100 plus a few scrap and some left in the pot.
They just keep asking and we keep telling, They learn nothing and we look smart. Not to pile on, but how do people reload w/o a basic understanding of the units of measure used? A 5# chunk will get you far if you don't like doing the match.
When they grow up they can't make change for a dollar.
Our energy is drained and they move on to the next person.
Is there hope for a change ?
Not downing the OP for asking the question, but did you put it on paper for the next time.
Could you tell I am in a grumpy mood ?
Hate is like drinking poison and hoping the other man dies.

You forgot to add 27.5% for a proper sprue. Of course that could be recycled into the next pot.
I'm just the welder, go ask him>
OP these guys are not piling on you. They are trying to give you the tools required to reload. I am not saying you are this type of person, but there are some who come here and want the answer straight up not the tools to do it themselves. That is what has solicited the responses you recieved. I for one am a optomist and truly believe that everyone who comes here and asks a question is truly seeking the tools to figure it out themselves. That being said please don't let this stop you from your quest for knowledge. Please keep those questions coming.

The biggest problem is the educational system. When I went to school we learned times tables to 12 X. The first wife was from Germany and it was 25 X. Today they only teach how to use a calculator. BIG problem when the power goes OFF
