1/4 inch scrap Aluminum plate under the sizer-------- FREE
Old cloths iron from a tag sale ---------------------------$2.00
Cheap enough ??
The Iron has all the heat control you need and works great.
Old heat gun or hair dryer, heat from a light bulb.
Use softer lube.

any other idea's? i have same luber and looking to make my own heater for it....
I use a 100-Watt bulb in a clamp-on, goose-neck lamp that is secured next to the 4500. I cover the 4500 and lamp with aluminum foil till the lube is to temperature than remove it and turn the lamp off. If the lube cools too much, I turn the lamp back on.
I just finished adding a heater to my 450. Elsewhere (can't remember which forum?) I saw a suggestion to use an automotive oil pan heater. I found a 2 inch by 5 inch 50 watt heater for $11 at Amazon and had some 1 inch thick aluminum plate that I made the heater plate from. I have access to a mill so I cut a channel to put the pan heater in. if I had had some 0.5 inch plate laying around I would have used that and a piece of 2 by 6 wood that I would have cut the channel in it would have worked just as well.
I just finished cleaning out the old Alox 50/50 lube that was in 450 and loading in the hard lube. After trying the heater the first time I found that the base of my 450 was rough enough that I wasn't getting good heat transfer to the lube/sizer so I added some heat sink compound between the heater plate and the 450 and added a lamp dimmer to adjust heater output. Now the plate is at about 135 F the body of the 450 is at about 125 F and the sizer die is about 122 F at 2/3 setting on the dimmer.
