Porterhouse, that is a capital idea! Kind of like the old "44 Associates" group with Elmer Keith when they were pushing the limits with the .44 Special back in the day. Heck, an annual get together to meet and shoot might be possible. Great idea Porterhouse. Keep your powder dry, Don

What powders and bullet choices are you looking to shoot in the imediate future with your JR500?

I have the rcbs 400 gr swc and I am looking at using H110, 4759 with perhaps 4759 as my initial preference.

    How bout you?

I have a lot of molds for this gun, thanks to this site, but I think I will start with my 440 gr Keith style swc,the one onty designed, over some 110 or lilgun first. I was using a 50-50 mix but was getting horrible leading so I need to stiffen up the alloy by waterdropping or adding tin or lyno.

Is #219 still available? Can I use the riflle powders with a LBT 440Grn LFNGC? I'll check the shank length of the bullet when I get home, I know there is alot of it hanging out of case.

    John,
Do you still have the two tone version of this revolver available? I have just recently moved to CA from VA. I should be able to purchase it in CA as soon as I obtain my CA driver's license.
    Thanks,
    Lee

I will appreciate if any one can share their experiences with this revolver. I wonder how the recoil is shooting full power heavy grain factory loads. I have owned all variants of this revolver at one time or another with the exception of the non ported ES and this revolver. So I have no experiences with non ported 500. I only own the 7.5" and 10.5" PC versions now because I found the PC version of the muzzle brake tames the recoil a lot more effectively than the standard ones. This is somewhat puzzling to me because the escaping gas from the amount powder is so little compared to the momentum of the heavy grain bullets, but when I compared the recoil from the standard brake to the PC brake, the PC models are surprisingly pleasant to shoot. I shot through 80 rounds of full power loads with my PC model in one session without feeling any fatigue from the recoil.
Anyone has experience shooting full power loads with this bad boy? What's the comfort level and how long does it take you to recover for a follow up shot?

    John,
Have you received my check yet? was sent on 4/25 FFL is T&A Armory, the wait is killing me slowly. Can you update the list, who got shipped out and who's pending shipment and/or payment? That would be super.

    Thanks

I just bought one of the 502-700 grain monsters from MiHec -- he has one left and a few of the keiths at 440.

    700 grain hollowpoint. My god!

    I recommend the following:

Trail Boss for milder loads. With my short shank designs you can still get impressive ballistics. Load to near 100% density with any bullet but DO NOT compress.

4759 for powerful loads that are not near maximum. Load to 100% density with any bullet. 550 @ 1325 FPS is typical.

H110/WW296 or non-canister equivalent for top velocity with lighter short shank bullets under 550 grains. 510 @ 1750 is typical, 400 @ 2000 plus.

WC680 for top velocity with long nose bullets over 550 grains. 725 @ 1220 is typical.

4198 and any of the fast .223 powders (H322, H335, BLC-2) if you have a bunch laying around you got cheap and you want to shoot it up. Load to 100% density. Very uniform mid-power loads.

I'd AVOID ANY powder faster than H110/296 besides Trail Boss. Double charges possible.

I'd avoid Lil Gun. Burns really hot. Gun gets too hot to hold without gloves. Worried about long term effect of using this powder.

Got your check today, now we wait for it to clear.

I'm on a laptop away from the office. I'll look at the records and update the list tomorrow with the guns that were shipped today.

Thanks John, I hadn't seen that before. I have read your excellent pdf on the 500 development with much interest.

What is the slowest burning powder you have experimented with? The slower 223 powders like Varget, AA2230 or 4895 (which I have lots of).

    many thanks.

I have to say after numerous inquiries and apparently time to answer load questions the fact that we don't have any real information on delivery/shipping times is starting to bother me.Please let us know where this buy stands and or keep us better informed. Thanks

My Dealer sent me an Email saying that Fed Ex tried to deliver yesterday, I am the only pending order he has right now. I will say he has a few guys that order stuff and have stuff shipped to him without telling him. That being said, I am hoping that it's my Revolver!
