Please let us know ASAP if we can pay via credit card as that is the probably the deciding factor for me. [My bank and I thank you Spartacus for the idea, my wife on the other hand...]

Also, for folks in California who are interested, we will need to have this in our FFL's hands no later than 4/16 to have a timely DROS.

Buy the stock 4 1/2" gun from S&W or please read this file as to why we DON'T want this:

    http://john-ross.net/pdfs/maghist.pdf

Mr Ross specifically designed this version with NO useless compensator and weighted for everyday carry which is how I will use mine.

Yes, I see that "YOU" and whom ever "WE" don't want it, but I like it and I want it, only making an inquiry to see if it's possible. I like his 5" length and 1:10" twist for heavier grain bullets. It seems you have a strong opinion regarding the compensator but I don't think it's USELESS and neither does S&W. If it's possible to have those things, i would buy it because it's my money and my gun. Mr. Ross designed it to his preference and I have mine, thank you for your opinion and support on Mr. Ross version of the gun it's much appreciated. However it does not apply to all shooters.

When does this buy close? After the 10 gun quota is met or longer?

If you had taken the time to understand what is happening here you would know that the Ross 500 is not available with any options except skin color and then you would have realized how absurd your question and hence your response to my post is. Since you apparently did not bother to read the link I posted, here is an explanation in Mr Ross's own words of how useless compensators are on handguns:

"I have always preferred the looks and balance of the traditional S&W Magnums of the pre-stainless era over the full underlug designs that came into favor with the 686 and after. I also prefer plain muzzles on revolvers to those with compensators. The greatly increased blast and concussion to my whole nervous system is not to me worth the slight recoil reduction to my hand. I say slight because of the laws of physics. Let me explain.

Recoil is generated by the weight and speed of the bullet, and the weight and speed of the burning powder. Compensators or brakes are ineffective on guns where the powder charge is a small percentage of the bullet weight (most handgun ammo). Brakes work their best in high pressure bottlenecked rifle cartridges like the .300 Weatherby, where the powder charge can be 50% or more of the bullet weight. The ultimate example of this is the recoilless rifle, where enough powder is used (and directed rearward) that the gun doesn't recoil at all.

In the .500 S&W shooting 640 grain bullets, the powder charge is less than 5% of the bullet weight, and redirecting part of this small charge cannot possibly reduce total recoil to any large degree. It is my very strong opinion that factories such as S&W and Taurus put compensators on so many of their magnum revolvers because the general public for some reason thinks they are desirable, and not because of any actual objective tests that demonstrate their efficacy."

are you beyond reason? "I have always preferred the looks and balance of the traditional S&W Magnums of the pre-stainless era over the full underlug designs''

    - that was personal preference

"I have always preferred the looks and balance of the traditional S&W Magnums of the pre-stainless era over the full underlug designs that came into favor with the 686 and after. I also prefer plain muzzles on revolvers to those with compensators. The greatly increased blast and concussion to my whole nervous system is not to me worth the slight recoil reduction to my hand"

    - also personal reference

    -"slight recoil reduction"

    - clearly this states there are recoil reduction with the comp, therefore it is not at all "useless"

The question was directed to fit my personal preference on this gun, if it can't be done then no biggy, I don't know why you are being butt hurt about it and trying to force your believes of the perfect gun onto me. In fact I wasn't even talking to you, Mr. Ross have answered my question in PM, thanks for your effort.

John couldn't have said anything in his PM that I didn't already say. And that makes me "beyond reason"? lol

But you are welcome in that I answered your question as to whether the Ross 500 is available with a full underlug and compensator. It is not and with good reason. Weight reduction and better performance.

I agree with John in that the whole compensator thing is waaay overdone. I even owned a EAA Witness Compact in .45 with a compensator before I got educated as to exactly how useless they are. Did I say useless? Not only useless but dangerous in that you will suffer momentary loss of night vision in a dusk or evening firefight or in a darkened room.

    John,

Can't tell from anything I've seen, just a curiosity question: Does this gun come with the internal lock? Or as it's a PC model, have they omitted the lock?

Doesn't effect my purchase either way, just want to know if there's gonna be a hole in my gun.

ETA: Did a bunch of looking online, it does appear to be a lock gun.

Yes, it has the lock. For some people that's a deal-killer. I don't know why. I never use them.

Why the lock would be a "deal killer" is amazing to me as it is no big deal at all.

C'mon you fence-sitters... get off your butts and order up. I need one of these badly!
