Thinking about a .40 from Green Mountain?

Thinking about getting a .40 from Green Mountain to drop into one of my stocks. Would like to scurril and rabbit hunt with it. Turkey also. Anybody out there have any xperience with GM .40s? I have Cabellas and Lyman sidehammer stocks to drop in. Thanks, 10

    I have a 28" and a 38", both TC Renegade percussion.
The 28" is nice. The 38" makes a bench gun.
I've long threatened to have the 38" rebored. Instead I'm going to continue a series of experiments with conicals. The 48" twist should stabilize a short conical according to the Greenhill formula. I've tried paper patched with a little bit of success. And, the Lee 41 mag plain based semi-wadcutter has shown some promise but not yet what I would like to see. So, I'm still tinkering and trying to make a perfectly good round ball gun jump through a different hoop. The combination of slow twist and the rifling that is relatively deep compared to the bore makes it a challenge. Some day if I get the bugs worked out of it I want to take it predator hunting.

But, what you probably wanted to hear about was how they do with round ball... they're great.

Green Mountain barrels are very good quality.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

I have several GM 40s and other makers' 32s and 36s. A 40 will be way over powered for the game you named. A 32, perfect. BvT
Every lawbreaker we allow into our nation, or tolerate in our citizen population leads to the further escalation of law breaking of all kinds and acceptance of evil.
Since almost all aspects of our cultural existence are LIBERAL in most states, this means that the nation is on a trajectory to dissolution by the burden of toleration and acceptance of LAWBREAKING as a norm, a trajectory back to the dark ages of history.
