    Question 44 spl. 275 gr.

    Greetings all,

Just got some beautiful Keith style 275 gr. cb's for my S&W 24. I'm hoping to load them for trips into the mountains here where I am not at the top of the food chain, if you know what I mean.

Anyone got experience with this weight in a 44 spl.?

I have shot some and have 2 molds for that weight Keith. An H&G and an NEI. I still like the 250 Keith a little better but the 275 Keith will do well but shoots a little high in my Ruger Flattop Blackhawk.
Try 15 gr of 2400 and a standard primer. You may want to try 14.5 just to see if it will do better accuracy wise but 15 shot well in my gun. The bullet doesn't seat deeper enough to be of concern as far as powder charges are concerned.
I haven't chronoed that load but 15.5 of 2400 and the Lyman 250 Keith will do 1150 from my 45/8's inch barrel. You may lose maybe 50 fps with the 15 gr load.
6.5 gr Unique will work and is a smooth easy shooting load with minimum recoil. That is the start load for the 250 Keith load in the Speer book and since people go up to 7.5 with the 250 Keith you will be way more than safe.

I have shot 265 grain ranchdog boolits without checks with 6.5 grains of unique in my s&W 621-4, pretty accurate.
