The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

One of the most awesome doubles I have ever seen. It is a beauty. I understand it is not going to be a safe queen? I can understand though that like a classic car you only want to get it out when the weather is nice. At least that would be me.

Good morning Nitro, You created this beautiful gun with the right dimention's to be able to push the loading envelope to its max!
Barrel at the muzzle measuring .850", where as my Savage 220F measures .810"
    Bravo, brother!

    I agree, but I get 0.085 x 2 ( wall thickness ) + 0.622 = 0.792"
    It's a 20 bore.

    Using your numbers.
    0.850 - 0.729 = 0.121 / 2 = 0.06 ( sixty thou ) or
    0.810 - 0.729 = 0.081 / 2 = 0.40 ( forty thou )
This is the wall thickness at muzzle.

    My 20 bore is :
    0.792 - 0.622 = 0.17 / 2 = 0.85 ( eighty five thou )

So plenty of meat to play.

Hello Nitro, my Savage 220 20 bore has the barrel measuring .810" at the muzzle and my 12 gauge Savage 212 has the barrel measuring .910" at the muzzle.

If you ask me what would I want if you were to re-do another gun then I'll say
20 Ga. .850" at the muzzle with 26 inch barrel!
12 Ga. .950" at the muzzle with 26 inch barrel!

You had such great fun building that gun that now it would be much easier and would be twice as fast this time around!

    Oh OK.
We chose barrel profile that balanced the rifle at the hinge pin.
    Right around 8.5 lbs.
Still thick enough for lively loads.

Got some more RB from Turbo.
    Loading can continue.
Also got some new samples from his new molds.
13/16 oz hammerhead with sharper nose, 1oz version too.
And a RN hollow base, maxi ball 1oz.
    Dying to try these out.
    Will report.

That is one lovely piece of work. Congratulations are certainly in order. Your a patient and creative man. You have earned that particular buck. I hope there are many more successful hunts for you with it.
