20 Ga. Double slug gun Build

    Hello,

I am now far along enough to unveil this project.
This double will have 3" 20 Ga. chambers.
    0.625" grooves, 1:24" twist.
It will be regulated with Sabot slugs, but I plan on casting and trying full bore slugs.

    Enjoy

Nice work! I've always wanted a double rifle, but considering how much they cost, I'd also have to build one if I wanted one!

nitro450exp. I am a member of that other forum as well, and really looking forwards to seeing the finished gun. I particularly like the front sight, beautiful work...really. I have just picked up a baikal 20 gauge and am having a guy back east rifle the barrels just for fun. It shoots pretty well with smoothies....next will be to cut rifling into the last three inches like the paradox guns of old. This will be done to one of my 12 bores.......Keep us all posted on your good deed!!

    Hello,

The work is going slowly, too slowly for my liking, just have to be patient.
I will let you know when we get to the fun stuff, Regulation.
Barrels are almost joined and put back on face, then woodwork and finally shooting.

Greetings Fantastic ! I am with the heard.. Sure would be nice.. But real life says I will stick with my Fox B 12 with reamed chokes and round ball.
I have been considering a 20 gauge RB gun... your project is just another push that-a-way.

    Very nice!

I would love to build something like that as well but time and money are both limited... at least for now.

I think Mike will have some company in the round ball gun category. Likely as close as I will ever get to a double rifle.

Great project and great work! Nice targets too ~ that's the icing on the cake to have it shoot that well.

Fantastic work. A beautiful gun. I should say it is a work of art. I know you will enjoy it. I am glad to see that the gun will not be a safe queen.

    Shooting pics added.
    Also added another target.
We moved the barrels several times.
I think it is very close.

    Update 12/03/11

Bill73 and I went to the range on Saturday.
Temp was low 40's and snow on the ground, 90% humidity.

Shot from the bench at 50 yds. and 100.
Elbows on the bench forearm hand supported by a sandbag.
    6 shots at 50yds and 4 at 100.
50 yd was no better or worse than before.
    2 1/2" by 1 3/4" group.

First 2 had verticle spread but no Horizontal.
Next 4 had little verticle but made up the 2 1/2" group size.
    2 R were R and 2 L were L
I will attach the target later.

I shot a left over target at 25 yds.
    Offhand and relatively quick shots.
This would be exactly as ahot in the field.
    See target below.

Bill73 feel free to chime in your thoughts.

    Cheers Nitro

Edit: This is the 50 yd target.

Looks like I need to try some more ammo types.

This is the 100yd target first 2 shots, I felt good about them, pulled the next 2.
Second shots had less verticle but lots of horizontal, off frame of the pic.
But I knew i pulled them bad.

If you could post a pic on this site, I could see it. The Nitro site hasn't sent me a confirmation email yet. Is it normal that maybe it takes a few hours?

Teaser for those who cannot get on NE or AR.

    Update 11/24/11

Well good news, initial firing and regulation is complete.

    Full side view.

Close up of the scope and action.

    Nitrile blued internals and screws.

    Assembled action.

    1st shooting , no regulation , crossing at 50.

    After 3rd. Adjustment, not bad.

Need to pick ammo I want it regulated for and finalize the regulation.
