I put a tortilla skillet on the coils and then set my mold on the hot plate/skillet combinayion

It is worth having a hot plate with a tortilla skillet on you casting bench.

I had my wife buy 3 of them last night. I have a buddy who is getting into casting who is about to return from wintering in AZ, so I plan to give him one. They do heat up quickly and seem to cool down quickly as well due to their light weight construction.........Mike

it's the perfect setup for a double boiler system. Big pot of water, smaller pot of lube.

furthermore, three ingots can be placed inside the larger pot of water to give support to the pot-o-lube.

this keeps the inner pot from dancing all around, should your water come to a vigorous boil

I use one of these hot plates with a cast iron pot to melt ingots in. I place it on an elevated platform above my bottom pour pot for easy refills of the casting pot without losing temp. Makes it easy to keep the melt level in the pot high and so avoid dripping problems with the bottom pour spout.

I couldn't find one at my local HF yesterday.
