    2400 and 30-06 loads

I read somewhere 2400 makes nice med loads for the 180 GCgr boolit in a 30-06 and 2400. I'm interested in a med load. What was the range/ grains of 2400 did you use for a good load? I think it was 14 grains but not sure. Start at around 10 grains and how far up did you go. I'm not looking for the top end, just a med load thats accurate.
Someone gifted me a whole bunch of 180 gr RN GC boolits and I plan on using them in my 03A3 for punching some dangerous paper targets.

16 grains of 2400 in a 30-06 with ~180 grain gas-checked cast bullets should give you a reasonable starting point.

IMR SR 4759 is another good powder for 30-06 cast loads with bullets in the 160-220 grain weight range. A charge of ~ 20-22 grains will produce a velocity in the 1600ish range with good accuracy. I use the 4759 more than 2400. I'm not a high volume 30-06 cast bullet shooter, but I get ~ 2++/- moa from my JC Higgins FN Mauser 98 model 50 30-06 (sporter weight barrel, 4x scope), and 21 grains SR 4759. I use Lyman 311291 and Ideal 31141 gas checked cast bullets (~170+ grains) sized .310" from wheel weights.

16 gr of 2400 is a nice starting load for 180 gr in 06. Have taken 2400 up to 24 gr. of 2400 that blt with no problem. Had best accruacy however with 22 grains and 1 gr. dac fill. Can't recommend dac fill for anybody else, but it works for me with most fast burning pdrs.

+1 on 16 gr 2400 in .30-06 class cartridges for a "known good" starting point with
    essentially any wt cast boolit.

I had good luck years ago with a 190 Lee and 22 gr of 2400. No filler. I just like 2400 with cast, it keeps coming up as one powder that works well for me.
Start around 16 and go up. You are likely to find something that works.

I agree that 16 grains will be the starting place. 2400 is a great powder, but it's quickness starts to work against the cast bullet rifle shooter much past 1.8K fps.

    16 is a good start.
my 1917 seems to like 19.5 and does well up through 22 grs.
it likes aa-1680 at 19.5 grs. better though.

16 grs of 2400 & a pp'ed lee 200 gn boolit is an honest 2" shooter in my o3a3, very easy on both the rifle & you. Use the same load in my old krag.

I've had good (although limited) success with 20.0 gr of 2400 in my Ruger M77. I was sorting my bullets by weight when I was most successful, haven't had the time for that lately.
