Thumbs up 45-70 loads with Titegroup Powder

I have be working up loads in my 45-70 (marlin1895) with Titegroup. Right now I have loaded and shot a 350 gr. cast bullet with 12.5 gr. of Titegroup. Oregon Trail has some loading data for Titegroup in leverguns. I am pleased with the results. No pressure signs. Velocity was around 1200 fps.

Go to the Oregon Trail Bullets website and click on the Evil Roy section. The levergun load data is under that section.

I like TightGroup but as of yet I have not used it in 45-70. Only Low to Med 44 Mag and 38's. But I have to say please do be careful as TightGroup builds pressure fast when you start to go up on the powder charge.

Titegroup is one of my "Go To" powders in handguns- great consistency, and always reliable. A little cleaner burning than some of the other "standard" powders, too.

Never thought about using it in a 45-70, though.
OTBC website is not very "obvious" about the load data, are they?
Might have to try it later this spring, when I get the chance.

I've been using 12.2gr Titegroup with the 430gr Ranch Dog in my No 1 45-70.

    Nice plinking load!

I do not think that a 45-70 with a 430Gr Boolit is a plinker unless you are shooting at big stuff lol. A piece of Lead that big and Heavy only going what 1000 FPS would still put the hurt on something lol.

My usual loads are a full case of Trail Boss. That shoots VERY good in my Marlin 1895SS- especially with the 340 and 405 gr. LEE boolits. Tight clover leafs at 75 and 100 yd.

That will be hard to beat, but we shall see this spring sometime, I hope.
