    Lead Wye w/Flanges

Years ago I came up with a 3" Lead Pipe Plumbing Wye. Probably from an old Water Main. It has bolt together Flanges on all 3 connections. and looks to be lead.

I just went out and hit it again with a hammer.
It will dent when rapped with a hammer. It does not make a dead thump when hit. It sounds harder than plain lead. More of a clack sound when hit.

Any idea what is it made of??

I have not tryed to melt any of it so far. I have not attempted to saw any pieces off either.

Just wondering how to best use it for casting bullets, if it is useable??

I tuned up the description a little to better describe the Wye.

Surely someone will have an idea what it is made of.

Some recyclers can shoot it with a gun to determine the content.

I had a similar item, was maybe 4 or 5" dia.
Cut it in pieces with a tree pruner / limb lopper.
It had an iron flange in one end, was able to separate it pretty easily with the cutter
(cut down to it and peeled the lead away).
Parts of it had shiny soldered joints where the smaller pipes were connected.

    Sound about right?

Melt it . If it don't melt , throw it away. You will find steel or brass rings in the bolt flanges sometimes.
Sent from my PC with a keyboard and camera on it with internet too.
    Melting Stuff is FUN!
    Shooting stuff is even funner
