$21 vs. 20 primers and 100 grains of powder?

Made some pretty good looking 190 grain 40 cal loaded rounds today. Looked up some comercial stuff I have (Yeah I know commercial! I didn't buy it, came with my gun purchase) and cost was $21 for 20 rounds.

I loaded mine for the cost of 20 primers and 100 grains of powder. You should be able to do the math.



By the way, these rounds shot 8 out of 10 into .60 at 35 yrds yesterday out of my carbine. The two additional stretched the group to 1.40.

nice looking 40s BT I havent been able to load any of mine yet. I have a 180gr. looks just like a xtp with out the serrations. Hope to get some loaded up and get to the range soon. I think they will work good in my Ruger 92 . Right now it is too cold to shoot. LatheRunner

A full case of BlueDot shot that group above in my HyPoint carbine. The AA#7 was not to bad either. I didn't have much time to experiment but will soon. I use W-231 in my pistol behind these bullets.

I did not notice any signs of pressure from the full case of these two slow burning powders. Pretty much ran out of room before pressure had a chance but results where good.

Hodgdon's Longshot is a very good powder in the .40 to maximize velocity. Check their website for loading data and max pressures.
I can hardly wait to start making some bullets...I just need some swage dies!

I've used longshot in the 40 S&W loading it long, you do seem to get to a point of diminishing return at least in a 6.5" revolver.. I think the point at which velocity was dropping was in the 8.5 - 9 gr range.. I think that data is somewhere around here in the swaging section.. My swaged bullets were in the 193 ish gr range.
