    New milspec brass?

I am setting my sights on an M1 garand and want to know is there any such thing as new, unprimed milspec brass available or would I have to get commercial brass only? If so where can I buy some? Is it true that I won't get more than a couple of firings from the commercial brass because of cases stretching too much and that the milspec will last longer becuase it's thicker?

Try Jeff Bartlett gi.brass.com or hi-techammo.com. Last I saw they had virgin lake city match with chemically inert primers. Just resize, use a old bore brush to get the sealant out, tumble, load and shoot. Frank

Both the above sites don't have .30-06 brass currently listed. www.polygunbag.com has NOS primed .30-06 brass from the 40s. The descriptions says it's thicker than commercial brass and the primers are corrosive.

To avoid slamfires brass used in the Garand should be full length sized at every reloading. The rifle also tends to stretch brass more than a bolt gun. The combination of stretched cases and Fl sizing will shorten the life of the brass. You can get more than "a couple" of firings though. How many depends on your rifle, loads, brass and dies.

I tend to prefer good US Lake City brass for the Garand, but in all truth, I have not noticed that it gives much better life than good commercial brass.
Disclaimer: The above is not holy writ. It is just my opinion based on my experience and knowledge. Your mileage may vary.
